Readers Comment On Nominee’s Affect On Mid-Term Election
JUDGE BRETT KAVANAUGH
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Sitting U. S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his plans to retire several weeks ago. The announcement gave President Don- ald Trump the re- sponsibility of naming a replacement to fill the vacancy.
President Trump nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh and the confirmation by the U. S. Senate process began.
However, what would have been a rou- tine confirmation was side-railed when Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified that he had committed an un- wanted sex act against her more than 30 years ago.
Since that time, two other women have come forward with sim- ilar accusations. Judge Kavanaugh has de- nied the accusations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations has been given a limited time to investigate the accusations.
As the mid-term
election approaches, some feel that if Judge Kavanaugh is con- firmed, it could change control of the U. S. Sen- ate which is controlled by Republicans 51 to 49.
Some Sentinel readers shared their comments to the fol- lowing question: “If Judge Brett Ka- vanaugh is confirmed, how will it affect the up- coming mid-term elec- tion?”
“Should Judge Ka- vanaugh be con- firmed, it will send messages to the Repub- lican Party members that the American peo- ple will support them regardless of what they say or do.
“Entitlement will be- come their new norm which will be reflected in the candidates and the Electorate. We will by election time, be a country further divided with voters further los- ing faith in the election process. Yet we must push past this and keep our faith in knowing we can change the future if we vote.”
MRS. CAROLYN HEPBURN COLLINS
Mrs. Carolyn Hepburn Collins said, “In today’s ques- tionable times, one could only make as- sumptions. I will make three brief projections. First, Republican voters may be pleased and be- come complacent when it’s time to go to the polls to vote. Second, Democratic voters should be outraged and fulfill the full GOTV process everyday – Reg- ister Voters, Educate Voters and Get Voters to Polls; in Hillsbor- ough County, we should get all 800,000+ voters to cast ballots.
“Finally, every woman, young lady and male voters who love their mothers, daugh- ters, sisters and female family members and friends, coupled with the commitment to pro- tect the Constitutional Rights of all Americans through the Supreme Court, should vote against privileged male whowasborntobea Supreme Court Justice. Brett Kavanaugh was born with the golden spoon and only “pure justice” and the vote will remove that

spoon.”
Dr. Samuel Wright said, “I am hopeful that DEMOC- RATS will rise up and vote like never before. If we are seriously dis- pleased about the polit- ical shenanigans in this country, then we must stand up and change the landscape...or the narrative! Let’s be se- rious....and agents of change!”
STAN GRAY
Stan Gray said, “I think many will vote out of anger, in opposition. However, my greatest fear is that voter apathy will be rampant.”
DANNY GREEN
Danny Green said, “I think it will affect a mid-term election if Judge Kavanaugh is confirmed. Because some people think he lied about his drinking. I think you will see a big difference in the mid- term election with the women’s vote. I think he will be confirmed be- cause one week for the FBI to investigate is not enough time. I think we are going to see a “blue wave.”
REV. KAREN JACKSON SIMS
Rev. Karen Jack- son Sims said,
MRS. BONNYE CREWS
Mrs. Bonnye Crews said, “A Judge Kavanaugh confirma- tion, should it happen, should serve as a wake- up call for anyone con- cerned about women’s rights and civil rights. If so, these voters should turn out in record num- bers.”
