Alzheimer’s Association Plans Walk To End Alzheimer’s In Tampa
The Alzheimer’s Associa- tion® is inviting Tampa Bay area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer’s by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The Walk will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Amalie Arena, 401 Chan- nelside Drive in Tampa. Reg- istration begins at 7:30 a.m. This is a family-friendly event.
Those taking part in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's will complete a 2-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportuni- ties, clinical studies enroll- ment and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association.
Walk participants also honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony.
Ms. Gina Waterhouse,
team Captain of ‘First Sur- vivor!’ said, “In March 2016, after extensive testing I learned that my memory is- sues were not simply a prod- uct of normal aging. I began the journey that my mother,
her mother and her brother had all gone down, Alzheimer's disease.
“Currently there is no cure and no way to slow the progression of this terrible disease. Most of us have had our lives touched by Alzheimer's. A parent, a grandparent, a friend, a co- worker or a sibling has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. My mantra since the begin- ning of this journey has been that I want to be the FIRST SURVIVOR of Alzheimer's
disease. That’s why I walk.” Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the U. S. Currently, more than 5.7 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this dis-
ease.
Register today. Sign up as
a Team Captain, join a team or register to walk as an indi- vidual at alz.org/walk.
