The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power
Moffitt Cancer Center has appointed actress, producer and philanthropist, Vivica A. Fox to its national Board of Advisors. Fox joins a prominent group of individ- uals from across the nation who serve as Moffitt ambas- sadors and offer their expert- ise and counsel on issues relating to the cancer center.
Fox is no stranger to the national stage. The actress has a long and recognizable career in movies and televi- sion. While she is possibly most recognized for her role in the Independence Day films, Fox began her profes- sional acting career with roles on the daytime televi- sion soap operas Days of Our Lives and Generations.
She later moved to prime time, starring opposite Patti LaBelle in the NBC sitcom, Out All Night. Since then, she has appeared in more than 100 films, including F. Gary Gray’s Set It Off.
Currently, the former Dancing with the Stars con- testant has a recurring role on Fox’s hit television series

Empire, and she is co-execu- tive producer and stars in the Lifetime network series Vivica’s Black Magic. Fox also owns Vivica Fox Hair Collection, which includes a special line for cancer pa- tients that includes wigs, hats, head wraps and scarves.
Fox also is a member of Moffitt’s George Edgecomb Society, a new program which seeks to raise funds to address cancer health dis- parities. Fox joins 32 other prominent figures on Mof- fitt’s national Board of Advi- sors.
I am occasionally asked to give a definition of a hymn. I oblige by saying it’s simply a song of praise to God; a deity; or a nation.
With that in mind no dis- cussion of modern day hymnody is complete without mentioning the contributions of Andrae Crouch and his powerhouse, The Blood Will Never Lose It’s Power.
After doing some re- search, the story is that Crouch wrote the song at the tender age of 14 while attend- ing an outdoor Memorial Day Picnic. He sneaked away into the house, sat down at the piano and began to think about the Savior’s death on the cross. People attending heard him singing and joined him and began to weep as they sang:
It reaches to the highest mountain
And it flows to the lowest valley
The Blood that gives me
ANDRAE CROUCH
...Penned, The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power
strength
From day to day
It will never lose its pow’r.
Seldom on Communion Sunday is this gospel hymn not sang. The lyrics and the melody have the ability to make the entire congregation become one in thought of re- demption through the cross.
Before Andrae Crouch passed away on January 8, 2015, he is said to have writ- ten over 1,500 songs and re- ceived seven Grammys.
It soothe my doubts
And calms my fears
And it dries all my tears The Blood that gives me
strength
From day to day
It will never lose its pow’r.
