Police Need Help To Solve Drive-By Murder
On the afternoon of March 11, 2017, a Tampa man was shot several times while playing chess with an- other man. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is asking members of the com- munity to provide informa- tion that will help solve the murder.
According to police, 38- year-old Thomas Edward Walker, III, was sitting at the corner of Deerfield Drive and Libby Lane, in Clair Mel. Walker and another indi- vidual were playing chess. As Walker left the area where the game was being played, a dark-colored vehicle, possi- bly a Buick, with at least two Black men in it pulled up to the intersection.
A Black man got out of the vehicle and fired multi- ple shots. The man then got back into the passenger’s side of the car and the car drove away northbound on Darlington Drive.
Walker was struck by the gunfire and died at the scene.

USF Football Player Dismissed From Team
Problems for a 22-year- old athlete continue to mount after an alleged road rage incident last Saturday. In addition to being shot three times and arrested, he has been dismissed from the USF football team.
The problems for 22- year-old Hassan Childs, now a former University of South Florida football player, began when he was shot by another man during an alleged road rage inci- dent.
The Tampa Police De- partment launched an in- vestigation after receiving information of shots being fired, officers responded to a New Tampa apartment complex.
When police arrived at the Eagles Point Apart- ments, 14551 N. 46th Street, in New Tampa, they discov- ered Childs, a senior at USF, had been shot three times. Childs was trans- ported to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable

condition. He was shot once in the upper right arm, once in the torso, and once be- neath his arm. He is ex- pected to recover from his injuries.
Police identified the shooter as 26-year-old Jo- vanni Jimenez, of Tampa. Jimenez told po- lice that Childs had pointed a gun at him and his wife, Jennifer Jimenez, 31.

sen USF Coach, Charlie Strong announced that Childs has been dismissed from the football team.
Coach Strong said he spoke with Childs and Childs understood the school’s decision.
Jimenez left the scene after the shooting and called 9-1-1 from his home. The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office will deter- mine whether he will be charged in the incident.
