Harram Court No. 96 Elects Commandress
Representative Sean Shaw's Prison Diversion Programs Bill Passes Unanimously In Criminal Justice Subcommittee
Tallahassee, FL - Tuesday, the House Criminal Justice Subcommittee unanimously passed HB 641, sponsored by Representative Sean Shaw (D-Tampa). The legislation promotes prison diversion programs for non-violent of- fenders and allows courts to depart from mandatory min- imum sentencing require- ments in certain situations.
After passing with bi-parti- san support, the bill is now ready to be heard in the Jus- tice Appropriations Subcom- mittee.

non-violent offenders is a commonsense measure for the state to take that could lower costs and help shut the revolving door of our prison system,” explained Repre- sentative Shaw. “It is criti- cal that these non-violent offenders get access to the programs they need to be- come productive members of our society. I’m grateful that this issue is gaining bi-parti- san support.
“I'm just glad the legisla- ture is willing to consider such progressive criminal justice reform. This is just a start,” he concluded.
Harram Court No. 96, Daughters, a subordinate court to the Imperial Court, an auxiliary to the A. E. A. O. N. M .S. of North, South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc., P. H. A., recently elected Andreatha L. Nurse as Il- lustrious Commandress.
Having served in many po- sitions in the organization, Ms. Nurse’s leadership and values of inclusiveness and teamwork have earned her the trust and respect of Har- ram Court No. 96 members. When asked what her goals for the organization were, Ms. Nurse stated, “I want to make Harram Court No. 96 an organization with an image that causes people to say we are “finer women in the community.”
“Focusing on the theme, “One Team, One Mission,” I plan for us to carry on the name of the organization and build on the legacy of past commandresses, a legacy of community services that in- clude volunteering and fundraising activities to fight breast cancer, diabetes, sickle cell, high blood pressure and heart disease.”
The 71-year legacy in- cludes the adoption of a Title I school, tutoring and dona- tion of school supplies, schol- arships for young female high school graduates and mentor- ing young women ages 5-17 years. Veterans and female victims of domestic violence have been recipients of gifts from the organization as well.

of Tennessee State University with specialized training and certifications in child safety, abuse and neglect prevention, health and food sanitation and adult and child CPR.
Among her professional career responsibilities have been Child Development Technician, Court Appointed Mentor for at-risk children, mid-level management for the U. S. Department of De- fense-Emergency Action Planning and Child Develop- ment Director.
She serves as a volunteer at the Tampa General Hospi- tal Youth Ward and God’s Side Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Danny C. Osborne, Pastor. The mother of one son, Dwayne E. Nurse, Jr. and grand- mother of four, Ms. Nurse lives by Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.”
