Suspect Arrested On Charges Of Sexting Minors
A Winter Haven man was ar- rested Tuesday on several felony charges for sexting mi- nors and sexual battery on a minor.
Winter Haven Police detec- tives began their investigation of 62-year-old Ezekial Ortiz after they received information he was possibly sexting girls ages 16 or younger, and having inappropriate contact with them. All of the victims are ac- quainted with Ortiz through members of his family.
On September 22, 2016, de- tectives were notified there were concerns of inappropriate activity over a cell phone be- tween a 16-year-old female and Ortiz. An interview with the victim revealed that in August 2016, she didn’t have a cell phone, and Ortiz gave her one. Detectives said the victim con- sidered the phone a nice ges- ture from Ortiz with no further intentions.
Ortiz immediately began sending text messages to the victim, detectives said. Over time, the messages became more frequent, and turned sex- ual. Eventually, Ortiz allegedly requested the victim send him nude photos of herself. Detec- tives said the victim complied, although she was uncomfort- able, because she felt obligated to Ortiz for giving her the cell phone. He also reportedly pur- chased other personal items for her, such as shoes.
After the victim sent the first photo, detectives said Ortiz continued to send text mes- sages to the victim asking for more photos. The victim

started ignoring the text mes- sages and returned the phone to Ortiz in early September 2016.
During the initial investi- gation, a second victim was identified and interviewed. She told detectives Ortiz began sending her messages of a sex- ual nature when she was 16 that ended with sexual contact on at least five occasions at Ortiz’s residence. Additional investigations have revealed several victims Ortiz contacted through text messages. Detec- tives said at least seven girls under the age of 17 have been victimized by Ortiz.
Ortiz has been charged with sexual battery of a victim under 18, and over the age of 12, pro- moting a sexual performance by a child and two counts of using a computer to seduce/so- licit/lure a child, and use of a 2- way communication device to commit a felony. More charges are pending.
