If you’re tired of seeing too much meanness and bad be- havior, then For The Family has the perfect way for you to strike back in a way that’s plain to see. You can help prove that kindness is still the strongest force of all.
The Tampa-based non- profit is encouraging people throughout the Tampa Bay area and beyond to join in the “National Days of Kindness” between Monday, September 17th and Saturday, September 22nd, which is the first day of fall. National Days of Kind- ness will be taking place every winter, spring, and summer from now on.
Just think of meaningful ways to be kind, and send a 1- minute smartphone video of what you do to ForTheFamily- Tampa@gmail.com. Creative kindness is especially wel- come, though any good and kind deed will make a differ- ence to both you and the peo- ple who have a brighter day because of your actions.
Every video will be eligible to receive a Family Flame Award and a gift card during the “Third Annual National FAM Awards” on Friday, No- vember 16 at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. They’ll also be posted on the agency’s YouTube channel along with a descrip- tion of what was done and who did it.
For The Family Adminis- trator Ward Cox put it this way: “Kindness is as natural as breathing to most of us, but people know that it doesn’t get much attention compared to the stuff they read, hear, and watch.” That’s why the Na- tional Days of Kindness are part of an ongoing celebration of the positive called Kindness of the Heart. It all culminates in The National FAM Awards, which honor kind actions the way the Academy Awards rec- ognize actors.
Kindness of the Heart partners in the area include: the School District of Hills- borough County, Hillsbor- ough Classroom Teachers Association, the 108-member churches of Pastors on Patrol, the Children’s Board of Hills- borough County, and a host of nonprofit agencies including, REACHUP, Positive Spin, and the Senior Connection.
In fact, the Hillsborough County School Board is issuing a Proclamation that designates Septem- ber 17-22 as an official “Week of Kindness.”
Pinellas County Schools, the Department of Children and Families, the Well4Life program of Hillsborough County Government, the Hillsborough County Depart- ment of Aging Services, and others are also participating.
However, Kindness of the Heart has established part- nerships far beyond Florida. It currently involves school systems, government agen- cies, nonprofit organizations, churches, and other entities from coast-to-coast in the U. S. and Canada.
As a result, video nomina- tions will illustrate the impact of simple kindness through- out North America. You can help spread the word by telling your friends.
Each nominee could earn Family Flame Awards and gift cards in the following cate- gories: Parent, Spouse, Sister, Brother, Son, Daughter, Vol- unteer, First Responder/Mili- tary, Praise and Gratitude, Random Acts of Kindness, Kindness to and from Ani- mals, and Kind Initiatives & Programs.
The deadline for emailing them to ForThe- FamilyTampa@gmail.co m is November 1.
