Charles Barkley Rips ‘Dumb’
Alvin Gentry, Pelicans Reportedly Agree To 2-Year Contract Extension
ALVIN GENTRY
The New Orleans Pelicans and head coach Alvin Gentry reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension Thursday. The extension will take Gen- try's deal through the 2020-21 season.
In three seasons as the Pel- icans' head coach, Gentry is 112-134 with one playoff ap- pearance.
The 63-year-old Gentry is coming off his best season with New Orleans. The Pelicans went 48-34 during the regular season and won a playoff series versus the Portland Trail Blaz- ers—a sweep, no less—before falling to the Golden State War- riors in the second round in five games.

Charles Barkley had some harsh criticism for the Cleveland Cavaliers after Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
The Cavs lost at home to the Golden State Warriors 110- 102. They kept allowing easy layups at the basket to the Warriors off slip screen plays. Their inability to adjust led Barkley to call them “dumb.”
“I’ve never seen a team that dumb in my life,” Barkley said while providing analysis after the game on NBA TV.

The play the Warriors kept scoring on was one NBA TV highlighted before the game, so they knew what was com- ing.
The Seattle Seahawks have confirmed who will replace Richard Sherman at the left cornerback position this year.
For the past seven seasons, the Seahawks and their fans got used to seeing Sherman man one of the cornerback spots on one of the NFL’s best defenses. That won’t be the case this season after Sher- man left to sign with the 49ers.
On Wednesday, Seahawks defensive coordinator Ken Norton, Jr. confirmed that Shaquill Griffin will man

the spot.
Griffin was selected dur-
ing the third round of last year’s NFL Draft. He played in 15 games and made 11 starts as a rookie, recording 59 tack- les and one interception. He also led the Seahawks with 15 passes defended.
Los Angeles Lakers guard and soon-to-be free agent Isa- iah Thomas needled his for- mer team on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Monday night.
Competing against Detroit Pistons Hall of Famer Isaiah Thomas in Kimmel's NBA edition of "Generation Gap," the former Cleveland Cavaliers guard said, "I'm like the Cavs, I'm going to get swept."
The Cavs traded Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in the offseason, acquiring Thomas along with Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets' 2018 first- round pick (No. 8 overall).
Coming off a hip injury from the previous season, Thomas played just 15 games

for Cleveland before being traded to the Lakers at the trade deadline.
Thomas has had fun with the Cavs more than once this postseason, joking with an- other traded Cavs player, Channing Frye, about where their travel suits were and posting a group Cavs photo just before Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Ex-Eagles WR Torrey Smith Blasts Trump For
Donald Trump an- nounced on Monday that he has cancelled the Philadelphia Eagles’ scheduled visit to the White House, and the presi- dent’s decision is affecting more than just the Super Bowl champions.
On Tuesday, the NFLPA released a statement express- ing disappointment in the last-minute cancellation. As a result, some community serv- ice events that were planned in the Washington, D.C. area have also been called off.
Trump says he is still planning to host a celebration
of America at the White House during the scheduled window when the Eagles were originally supposed to visit.
When you hear exactly how many players were plan- ning to attend the ceremony, it is not surprising that Trump decided to spare him- self the embarrassment. Still, it’s a shame the decision has resulted in community service events having to be cancelled. Hopefully the NFLPA — or Trump, for that matter — can come up with a way to make it up to those organiza- tions.

TORREY SMITH
One of the Philadelphia Ea- gles’ Super Bowl champions has spoken out about Donald Trump’s controversial deci- sion.
Torrey Smith, who was a wide receiver on the Eagles team that won the Super Bowl last season, addressed Trump’s announcement that the Eagles’ Tuesday visit to the White House has been can- celled.
Smith, who is now with the Carolina Panthers, says not many Eagles were going to at- tend and that nobody refused to attend over the anthem contro- versy.
Smith also called Trump’s cancellation a “cowardly act.”
Trump’s decision to cancel the visit seemed to be one to save face. Reportedly, fewer than 10 Eagles players were going to attend, so the president likely wanted to avoid the em- barrassment of having such a small crowd that would have surely led to mocking.
‘Cowardly’ Decision
On Felony Assault Charge
Former NBA player Glen Davis was arraigned Thurs- day on a felony assault charge stemming from an April inci- dent outside a nightclub, a spokesman for the Los Ange- les District Attorney's Office said Wednesday.
Davis, 32, was charged Tuesday with felony assault by means of force likely to pro- duce bodily injury, spokesper- son Ricardo Santiago said, following an April 8 alterca- tion outside the West Holly- wood nightclub Penthouse. The complainant, 27-year-old Daniel Diaz, alleges he suf- fered great bodily injury.
Davis, known as "Big Baby" during his eight-season NBA career, played for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic and LA Clippers from 2007 to 2015. He was a member of the Celtics team that won the NBA

title in 2008.
He was slated to play in the
BIG3 league this summer.
In February, Davis was ar- rested at a Hampton Inn in Aberdeen, Maryland, on drug possession and distribution charges. Police said they found 126 grams of marijuana and a briefcase containing $92,000 in cash inside Davis' room. Davis' attorney in that case said Davis maintains his in- nocence and looks forward to
clearing his name in court.
