Police Investigate Fatal Parking Lot Shooting
   Must Pay $128,740
In Tax Scam
Detectives are investigat- ing a fatal shooting that took place in a parking lot Satur- day night. Investigators said they don’t believe it was ran- dom because the victim and suspect knew each other.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, officers responded to a park- ing lot at 2300 22nd Avenue, North around 10:30 p.m., Saturday.
When they arrived, they
discovered an adult male had been shot. He was trans- ported to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
During the investigation, detectives identified the vic- tim as 29-year-old Nathan Tyler, of St. Petersburg. The name of the suspect has not been released and no arrests have been made in the case. The investigation is continu- ing.
A Tampa woman was sentenced to prison and must pay the Internal Rev- enue Service $128,740. She was sentenced last Thursday.
Ms. Derraka Reed, 25, of Tampa, was ordered to serve 3 years and 6 months in federal prison. She pleaded guilty last year.
According to a press re- leased from the U. S. Attor- ney, Middle District of Florida, Ms. Reed, who was booked into the Indian Rivers County Jail as Der- raka Everett, used stolen identities to file false income tax returns claiming refunds. She is accused of enlisting others to obtain debit cards for her to use.

returns with the Internal Revenue Service.
Ms. Reed reportedly filed claims to receive $581,497 in tax refunds that she was not entitled to re- ceive. She was successful in receiving $128,740.
Plant City Man Jailed After Fleeing In Stolen Car
    A 17-year-old was listed in critical condition Monday after being shot in the eye by a BB gun. The incident took place Saturday night.
According to the Tampa Police Department, a father, two minors, and the 17-year- old were at the Bank of America, 100 Westshore N., shortly before 9:30 p.m.
The 17-year-old was in the front seat and the mi- nors, ages 8 and 10, were in
the backseat. At some point after the father left the vehi- cle, the 8-year-old grabbed the BB gun and it went off, shooting the 17-year-old in the eye. The teenager was transported to Tampa Gen- eral Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condi- tion.
Police have not released the names of anyone in- volved in the incident. The investigation is continuing.
24-year-old Tampa woman was arrested last week. She was involved in a hit and run accident that left a teenager in critical condi-
tion.
According to the Hillsbor-
ough County Sheriff’s Office, the accident took place around 7:15 p.m., last Thurs- day. The victim and friends were walking toward 122nd Avenue on N. 15th Street. The victim crossed the street and was hit by a small, dark col- ored SUV. The woman driv- ing the vehicle stopped and got out of the car after the crash. She checked around her car, got back inside and drove away.
Police said she did not at- tempt to render any aid to the injured victim. The unidenti- fied 14-year-old victim was transported to Tampa Gen- eral Hospital in critical condi- tion.
Detectives launched their investigation, located the ve- hicle using HCSO’s Eye on Crime camera in the area. They identified the driver as Ms. Nakeeba Ryan, of Tampa. During an interview on Friday morning, Ms. Ryan was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury.
Police further stated that at the time of the accident, Ms. Ryan was employed as a Department of Children and Families employee. She was fired from her job as well.
The victim remains in crit- ical condition. The investiga- tion continues.
A Plant City man was taken into custody early Mon- day after fleeing in a stolen vehicle. He is facing several charges.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified of a stolen vehicle from Plant City. They were told the vehi- cle could possibly be in the area of Bailey Road, in Mul- berry.
The vehicle was a beige, 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, that had been reported stolen to the Plant City Police Depart- ment on February 1st.
Around 12:45 a.m., Mon- day, deputies observed the car turning off of S. R. 60, southbound onto Shady Hammock Drive. A Polk County patrol deputy initi- ated a traffic stop, but the car fled. Other deputies re- sponded and assisted in pur- suing the stolen car.
During the pursuit, the car intentionally rammed a Polk County patrol car in an offset head-on collision. The deputy was not injured. As the stolen car continued to flee, the driver lost control and struck a telephone pole at a business on Coronet Road, breaking the pole, then crashed into a fence.

abandoned the stolen car and fled on foot, but was quickly captured
A search of the stolen car yielded a glass pipe with residue in it that tested posi- tive for Methamphetamine.
According to the affidavit, during an interview, Davis told deputies that he “stole the vehicle a few days ago from a guy named ‘Darrell,’ in Plant City; came to Polk County to sell methampheta- mine with one of his friends to make money. He also al- legedly admitted knowing he had struck a patrol car.
Davis also admitted to never having been issued a driver’s license. He was charged with: aggravated bat- tery on a LEO; grand theft of a motor vehicle; burglary of an unoccupied vehicle; pos- session of meth; resisting ar- rest; trespassing and possession of drug parapher- nalia.
