About His
Movie ‘Chi-Raq’
Remember when the game had a bunch of girl groups? Now there’s only one, Fifth Harmony. The game needs another hot girl group...I’m talking Destiny’s Child status. And who would be one of the best people to put one to- gether? Kelly Rowland!
And she’s doing just that... Rowland has teamed up with award-winning choreog- rapher/creative director Frank Gatson and BET to find the next big girl group in a 10-episode series called
Chasing Destiny.
The third round of auditions (following New York and At- lanta casting calls) occurred on Saturday (Dec. 5) in L.A. at Henson Studios. Rowland said her goal is to be a voice for female camaraderie. She went on to say yes, the group is being manufactured, but the process is organic.
Rihanna’s upcoming eighth studio LP ANTI is still without a release date, but her ongo- ing, cryptic saga in conjunc- tion with Samsung plays on...
Enter the newest, fourth “room” of Rihanna’s AN- TIDiary. In this sinister place, Rihanna can be seen tattoo- ing dots on a hefty man’s fore- head, straddling him in his chair. The man looks fright- ened and begins to silently cry
blue tears, which comes from his nose and increase and spill down his body to the floor.
Each “room” is symbolic of Rihanna’s life and era in her music career, from Barbados to her current life as an inter- national pop star. Each room has clues for the fans to use to piece together to unlock some answers surrounding Ri- hanna’s new album.
Spike Lee and his movie Chi-Raq
Spike Lee’s controversial film Chi-Raq opened in the- aters last week, but before the Chicago based movie even hit theaters there was a lot of criti- cism hurled at the satirical drama. Even Windy City Hip Hop artists such as Rhymefest, Chance The Rapper, and King Louie re- fuse to support the new Spike Joint.
Lee did a recent interview with Sway In The Morning to discuss Chi-Raq. The award winning director got emotional as he pushed back against crit- ics that say he is exploiting the violence in Chicago.
Lee said: For those haters who have not seen the film who felt that we were making fun of the murder on the streets of Chicago or we were making light of it – Let me ask every- body a question. Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother, and nephew were murdered in Chicago. Why would Jennifer Hudson be in a film that ridiculed her murdered mother, brother, and nephew? Why is she being part of that?
[At the end of the movie] these black women are holding up posters of their young chil- dren that were murdered in the streets. Why would they ridicule their children by being in a film that did that? So peo- ple talking that crap, they don’t know what they’re talking about. This film, in no way, shape, or form, makes fun of anybody that got killed. This film was made to save lives, and all this other sh*t people are talking about is a distraction.
Besides Hudson, Chi-Raq also stars Nick Cannon, Tey- onah Parris, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, La La An- thony, and Dave Chappelle. The Amazon Studios produced film grossed $1.2 million in its opening weekend.
People go see Chi-Raq!!!
