One Dead, One Critical In Parking Lot Shooting

City Liquors is the location where one man was killed and another injured during a shooting.
A federal jury convicted a man in a drug related death. He is facing a maximum sen- tence of life in prison. His sentencing date has been set for June 6, 2019.
According to court docu- ments, Corey Damond Smith, Jr., 23, of Tampa, was found guilty of distribut- ing fentanyl resulting in a death. Testimony and evi- dence presented at trial stated that on November 13, 2017, Smith sold what he said was “heroin” to T. M., who took the drugs to her boyfriend and, at his request, helped him to use them. Smith had actually sold T. M. fentanyl. The boyfriend died as a result of using the drugs, officials said.
Smith, along with Jef- frey Luis Rodriguez, 33, and Donald Calvin Hatch, Jr., 29, of Tampa, were in- dicted in June 2018.

resulting in serious bodily in- jury, one count of distribu- tion of heroin involving serious bodily injury, and five counts of distributing heroin or fentanyl or both.
Hatch pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl. In his plea agreement, Hatch ad- mitted to conspiring with Rodriguez, acting as his middleman, in five sales of opioids to undercover law enforcement. Hatch also ad- mitted to having used heroin sold to him by Rodriguez and overdosing as a result.
Late Wednesday, police were called to a local liquor store in reference to a shoot- ing. When they arrived, they found one man dead and an- other injured.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the shooting took place in the parking lot at City Liquors, 9403 N. Nebraska Avenue. One of the victims, identified
on Facebook as a 42-year-old Tampa man, died at the scene. The Facebook post said he was known as “Ca Ca” in the community.
Social media posts identi- fied the second victim as “Toto.” The 40-year-old man was transported to a local hospital where he is re- covering from his wounds.
The names of the victims
were not released. However, next of kin have been noti- fied.
Police said the shooting took place shortly before 10:30 p.m., and that the shooting is not a random shooting.
Police are currently fol- lowing leads and gathering evidence in the case. The in- vestigation is continuing.
Women Being Sought In Theft Of Baby Formula

  The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is trying to identify two shoplifters. They are wanted in connection with the theft of baby for- mula.
According to police, the two Black women entered the Publix, 3461 Lithia Pinecrest Road on Tuesday. They took 20 cans of baby formula from the shelves and hid the items in large purses. The women

then left the store without
paying for the formula. The formula was valued at $367.
One of the women had a thin build and medium length black hair. The second woman had a medium build and black hair.

       Police Investigate Theft Of Church Bell
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a church bell stolen from a local church.
The bell is more than 100 years old.
According to police, the theft took place at Christ Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 19501 Holly Lane, in Lutz. The theft occurred be- tween February 3 and Febru- ary 24th.
Police said the bell is 116 years old and has an inscrip- tion that reads, “1903 Lake-

land Cumberland Presbyte- rian Church.”
A brass memoriam plate
which reads, “In Memory of Nancy White” was also stolen off of a tree located next to the bell.
The bell was supported on a cast iron frame on the ground. The unidentified suspects unbolted the bell and removed it from the property.
