Sorrow is fleeting but love is infinite. Nathaniel was a gregar- ious, happy, loving individual. He was born on August 1, 1949 to Johnnie James and Juanita James in Tampa, FL. Nathaniel and his sister, Beverly, were their only children.
Nathaniel was educated in the public schools of Hillsbor- ough County and was a graduate of Howard W. Blake High School, Class of 1968, where he was a high school “Football Star.” (his words.)
He worked at Verizon for over 35 years until his retire- ment. Nathaniel loved people and sports and he had a special fondness for fishing. He coached at Boys and Girls Clubs of Ybor City and West Tampa youth foot- ball and followed all other sports.
He joined First Baptist Church of College Hill in 1996 under the leadership of the late Reverend Abraham Brown who was his high school coach. He was baptized there and is proud to have his Homegoing Celebra- tion at his church home.
After his retirement, he worked at the TIA Airport, be- coming a fixture and sort of am- bassador to all he came in
contact with. He took pride in aiding the disabled and infirmed as they navigated their way through the airport. He enjoyed this position because he loved people.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Johnnie James; and brother, Anthony Frederick.
Nathaniel’s love spanned three marriages and nurtured 7 children.

When Nathaniel had not seen you in a long stretch of time, the way he greeted you was like he had seen you yesterday. He was meticulous about his appearance and his dress: always groomed, always neat. He loved to tell a story and was fond of a funny joke. He would tease you in a lov- ing and kind manner. Nathaniel was fond of food, especially seafood, Italian and southern. We will hold his memories dear in our hearts forever. He will be greatly missed.
