Man Convicted Of Conspiring To Distribute Lethal Drugs
Convicted Felon Arrested For Having 25 Guns, Ammunition
A federal jury has found Kevin Gene Hart, 31, of Ocala, guilty of conspiracy to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine, 1 kilogram or more of heroin, and 400 grams or more of fentanyl. He faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 15 years, up to life, in federal prison. A sentenc- ing hearing has been sched- uled for January 28, 2020.
Hart was indicted on March 27, 2019.
According to testimony and evidence presented at trial, between January 2012
and May 2019, Hart con- spired with others to distrib- ute hundreds of kilograms of cocaine and heroin through a network of stash houses in Marion County.
Large quantities of the heroin were also laced with fentanyl. On April 10, 2019, after learning of his federal indictment, Hart fled from federal agents in a high-speed vehicle chase. He was appre- hended by agents in Marion County on May 24, 2019, as he attempted to flee through a local business.
A 35-year-old man has been arrested for being in possession of 25 firearms and hundreds of rounds of am- munition. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in federal prison.
Nicholas Allen Groves, of Ocala, was ar- rested and charged with pos- session of a firearm affecting commerce by a convicted felon.
According to the criminal complaint, Groves has a 2012 felony conviction in Maryland for assault-first de- gree. That incident involved Groves threatening another person with a firearm. Be-
cause of this felony convic- tion, he is not allowed by law to be in possession of guns or ammunition.
On November 6, 2019, federal agents executed a search warrant on an Ocala residence where Groves lived alone. Inside the resi- dence, agents recovered at least 25 firearms (including AR-15 and AK-47 rifles), hundreds of rounds of am- munition, and personal iden- tification documents belonging to Groves. Among the recovered ammu- nition, agents located three military-style 40mm smoke and parachute rounds.
