Last Thursday, detectives with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office ar- rested a 13-year-old student and charged him with mak- ing written threats. This is the second time the student has been arrested on similar charges. His name has not been released because of his age.
The teenager was arrested at his home in Clair Mel around 4:30 p.m. He was charged with making written threats to kill, do bodily in- jury or conduct a mass shoot- ing or act of terrorism. The charge is a felony.
According to police, the youth was upset because he was expelled from Dowdell Middle School, 120 Wishing Well Way, following an April 26th incident. At that time, he was found in possession of a loaded gun on school prop- erty.
A witness told police that he had the weapon in his backpack and then placed it inside a large tractor tire out- side of the school, next to the bicycle rack. The School Re- source officer responded and took possession of the weapon.
He was arrested and charged with having a weapon on school property.
Police said he was on ju- venile probation when he made comments during a so- cial media session with an- other individual.
Sheriff Chad Chronis- ter said, “I am disappointed to be having this type of situ- ation occurring so early in the school year, but I cannot be any more clear, we will not tolerate any threats against a school ... Period.”
Officials said no one was ever in danger, and no weapon was located.
