Man Recovering From New Year’s Day Shooting
Probe Continues In Shooting That Left Man Dead, Woman Injured
A 27-year-old Tampa man is recovering after being shot on New Year’s night. The shooting took place outside an East Tampa club.
According to Tampa Po- lice, officers responded to Club 1828, 5110 N. 40th Street, in reference to gun- shots in the south parking lot of the club. When officers ar- rived, they discovered that Jeremy Tims had been shot several times in the upper body.
Police said the victim was uncooperative and although there were approximately 150 patrons at the club, no one came forward with informa- tion to assist in the investiga-

Tims was transported to
a local hospital. No suspect has been identified in con- nection with the shooting.
Detectives with the Tampa Police Department are continuing their investi- gation into a shooting that left a man dead and a woman seriously injured. The shoot- ing took place at 1806 N. Ne- braska Avenue, last Saturday.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to the location in reference to a shooting shortly after 7 p.m. When they arrived, the officers dis- covered that 43-year-old Larry Cotton, and Ms. Frances Helms, 58, had both been injured by gunfire.

Cotton and Ms. Helms were both transported to a local hospital, where Cotton
later died. Ms. Helms re- ceived life-threatening in- juries, but was listed in stable condition.
Detectives said based on the preliminary investigation the shooting does not appear to be a random act. No sus- pect information was avail- able at press time. However, the investigation is continu- ing.

Girl With Headphones On Killed By Train
Police are investigating the death of an 11-year-old girl. She was struck and killed by a train Wednesday.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Yazmin White, of Haines City, was hit and killed by an Amtrak Train shortly before 5 p.m. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 1792 and Bates Road.
The preliminary investi- gation indicates that White was walking through the woods and attempted to cross the railroad tracks.

ing southbound towards Winter Haven at approxi- mately 68 miles per hour.
The conductor told police
he observed the child at- tempting to cross the track. He blew the horn repeatedly while applying the brakes, but was unable to avoid hit- ting her.
The conductor told police she did not show any indica- tion that she was aware the train was approaching her. He also told detectives she was looking down at her phone while walking. Evi- dence at the scene indicates White was wearing head- phones at the time of the ac- cident.
She died at the scene and no charges are pending.
Police Arrest Bank Robbery Suspect
Police have arrested a man accused of robbing a bank. The robbery took place Friday morning.
According to Tampa Po- lice, around 10 a.m., last Fri- day, the man walked into the Wells Fargo Bank, 1770 N. 50th Street, and passed a let- ter to the teller demanding money. The teller complied and the man fled the scene.
No one was injured during the robbery. The investiga- tion led police to the resi- dence of 33-year-old Robert D. Moore, of Tampa. He was arrested without incident and charged with robbery, less than $300, possession of a controlled substance, and

He was transported to the Hillsborough County Jail, where his bond was set at $17,500.

Man Charged In Fatal Shooting
A 28-year-old St. Peters- burg man has been arrested and charged with murder. He was involved in a stabbing in which the victim later died.
According to the St. Pe- tersburg Police Department, Rodney Eric Brinson, Jr., and Michael Anthony Olive, 57, both of St. Peters- burg, knew each other. The two men became engaged in an altercation Sunday night, while in the 4700 block of 11th Avenue, North, around 7:30 p.m., Sunday, the altercation turned physical. Brinson al- legedly stabbed Olive several times. Olive was transported to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery.

However, he died on Jan- uary 2nd as a result of his in- juries. Brinson was taken into custody at the scene. The charges against him have been upgraded to second-de- gree murder, police said.
