Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival 2-Day Music Fest
The Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival 2-day music weekend was held Saturday and Sunday of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Weekend. The music fest was held in downtown Tampa at Curtis Hixon Park.
Hundreds braved the chilly weather to hear the Bar-Kays, jazz artists, Jane Burgene and Euge Groove, and gospel artist, Erica Campbell, among others.
One of the original members of the Bar-Kays, James Alexander, was in town for the festival. The Bar-Kays was the band that backed R&B singer, Otis Red- ding. Alexander was not on the plane that claimed the lives of Redding and his entourage (with the exception of one), who perished in a plane crash 45 years ago. Alexander still sings and plays music.
