Bridges Over Troubled Waters, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 2007, presented its 2015 and 2016 scholarships on December 20, 2016 at the Open Cafe. The scholarship is named in honor of Al Dixon, an edu- cator and life coach in the Hillsborough County School System for more than 30 years. Members of the Board of Directors and the scholarship recipients from left are: Clem Brooks, Mary Darby, Gerald McLean, Jordan Peoples, 2015 first place recipient, a student at Valencia College in Orlando; Kristopher Brown, 2016 first place recipient, who attends Florida A&M University, Tallahassee; Eleanor Dixon, Irving Ward and Wilton Day. Each of the first place recipients received $1,000. Unable to attend were second place awardees, Chanise Thomas (2015) and Kieana Spann (2016), who each received a $500 scholarship.
