Jayson Tatum Willing To Come Off Bench For Celtics
JAYSON TATUM
The Boston Celtics have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA, and they will likely have one or more players on the bench next season who could be starters on most other teams. It seems highly unlikely that Jayson Tatum will be one of them, but the emerging star says he is willing to accept that role if need be.
Tatum was arguably the biggest reason the Celtics made a deep playoff run last year without Kyrie Irving, and he averaged 18.9 points per game in the postseason as a 19-year-old. While you typi- cally don’t see that type of pro- duction on the bench, Tatum says he has no problem being a sixth man if that’s what Brad Stevens wants.
Jimmy Butler Open To Joining Lakers
JIMMY BUTLER
The Los Angeles Lakers never did find that second star to pair with LeBron James this summer, but there may be opportunities to do it next year — and there’s one standout player who could have inter- est.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler report- edly has interest in joining James with the Lakers next summer, when he could be- come a free agent.
The possibilities of De- Marcus Cousins and Kawhi Leonard remain on the table, but Butler is an in- triguing name given his ability to score and defend at a high level. He can opt out of his cur- rent contract next summer.
Butler has already turned down an extension with Min- nesota, and has dropped hints that he’d like to leave the or- ganization.

The Buyout Bag Upon
Departure From ESPN
Outspoken sports journal- ist and commentator Jemele Hill is leaving ESPN on Sep- tember 1.
Hill may have met with ESPN President James Pitaro about her future with the sports media giant.
ESPN is moving away from politically charged coverage of sports. Hill has become more vocal about political topics lately.
In the past year, Hill has become a target of the Right because of her comments call- ing President Donald Trump a "white supremacist" in wake of the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally. She has also come out in support of players protesting racism and injustice during the national anthem.
Hill has gone from being a broadcaster on the Sports Cen-

ESPN will buy out the re- mainder of Hill's four-year, $2.5 million per year contract. Hill signed that contract in 2016 and will receive a payout of almost $6 million.

David West Announces
Retirement After
15 NBA Seasons
David West proved that he is still capable of being a valuable bench player when he played a reserve role on two championship teams with the Golden State Warriors, but the big man has decided he has accomplished enough in his NBA career.
On Thursday, West re- leased a statement on social media announcing he has de- cided to retire.
West, 38, averaged 6.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game with Golden State last year. His best seasons were with the New Orleans Peli- cans, when he had a much bigger role and averaged around 20.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
DAVID WEST
West was a free agent, and it’s possible the Warriors did not express interest in bringing him back. Still, there’s no better way to end your career than with back- to-back NBA titles.
