July Revival To Generate Hope And Momentum For Social Justice
Pastors on Patrol will host the Revival on Friday, July 26th at 7 p. m. at Holsey Temple CME Church, 3729 North 15th Street
Public outrage continues to grow in the wake of Gov- ernor Ron DeSantis hav- ing signed legislation that directly counters a constitu- tional amendment to restore the voting rights of felons who have satisfactorily com- pleted their sentences.
Amendment 4 was over- whelmingly approved last November, but the imposi- tion of additional restric- tions in the last legislative session has sparked at least one lawsuit along with sig- nificant anger and frustra- tion.
Pastors on Patrol (POP) was a vocal supporter of Amendment 4 from the start, and is responding to the governor by modifying its customary Summer Re-

vival to focus on voter regis- tration and the issues facing ex-offenders as well as spir- itual evangelism.
Pastor Clarence Nathan of New Victory Baptist Church chairs the POP Evangelism Commit- tee, and he puts it this way: “Our first priority is to win the lost at all costs. This not only means souls, but get- ting more people to the

polls.”
POP President W.
James Favorite is Senior Pastor of Beulah Baptist In- stitutional Church. Dr. Fa- vorite says that, “The new restrictions are a direct slap in the face that is totally un- acceptable to all fair-minded people.”
This has led to Pastors On Patrol undertaking a special effort to register ex-

offenders and their adult family members to vote, along with the community in general.
Superintendent Charles Davis of College Hill Church of God in Christ plans to discuss the issue with Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections Craig Latimer in his role as POP Vice President.
Meanwhile, Pastors On
Patrol is hoping that fees and other restitution ex- penses that prevent felons from voting under the new law can be waived in Hills- borough County as was re- cently done in Orange County.
However, this is only the first step in what promises to be an ongoing effort to mobilize public support for honoring the will of the peo- ple. The situation with Amendment 4 echoes what happened in the wake of voter approval of the Class Size Amendment several years ago. The legislative re- sistance to that measure only subsided when voters reaffirmed their support in 2016.
Dr. Favorite points out that, “The arrogance of the powerful can only be thwarted when the voice of reason is louder than their conceit. That will happen when enough people say ENOUGH.”
