Tyler Perry Gives Lionsgate One Last Hit As Madea Says Goodbye
Former Voice Contestant Janice Freeman, 33, Dies Of Blood Clot
For 14 years, Tyler Perry has been Lionsgate’s secret weapon. As the rest of Holly- wood underestimated the ap- peal of his movies time and again (and again), Perry served up 20 films to Lions- gate, selling more than $1 bil- lion in tickets and pouring profits into the studio’s home entertainment coffers.
That partnership came to an informal close over the weekend with the release of Perry’s low-budget “A Madea Family Funeral.” As ever, box-office analysts mis- judged interest. “A Madea Family Funeral,” ostensibly marking the final big-screen appearance by Perry’s gun-
toting grandmother, sold an estimated $27 million in tick- ets at 2,442 North American theaters, or roughly 30 per- cent more than analysts had predicted.
The turnout was enough to challenge “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World,” the megamovie in the market- place, for first place at the weekend box office. In the end, “Hidden World” (Univer- sal) pulled ahead to collect roughly $30 million at 4,286 cinemas, for a two-week do- mestic total of $97.7 million, according to Comscore. The big-budget animated sequel has collected an additional $277 million overseas.
Former contestant on The Voice Janice Freeman has died aged 33 of an apparent blood clot.
Freeman's family told TMZ that the singer was at home in Pasadena, California, on Saturday when she began complaining that she couldn't breathe.
Her husband Dion called 911 and performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived. She was brought to the hospital and pronounced dead at around 5.30pm local time.
Doctors determined that a blood clot had traveled to her heart, according to TMZ.

with a number of health issues including lupus, meningitis and cervical cancer, which she'd beaten.
The performer made it to the top 11 on season 13 of The Voice under the mentorship of Miley Cyrus.
Cyrus sobbed as Free- man was voted off the show in November 2017.
'If anybody deserves to stick around in this competi- tion it is you,' Cyrus said at the time. 'You are a fighter, you are a warrior, you are a role model and, more than any of that, you are The Voice, I am in complete shock, I love you so much.'
HBO Threatened With Another Lawsuit Over 'Leaving Neverland'
Jaden Smith's JUST goods foundation has linked up with the First Trinity Mis- sionary Baptist Church to help provide a mobile water filtra- tion system for people in Flint, Michigan, the Associated Press reports.
The filtration system is de- signed to reduce the amount of lead and other containments. Flint has been suffering from a water crisis for nearly five years after the drinking water source of the city was switched to the Flint River despite it not having been treated for corro- sion control.
In addition to the $100 mil- lion lawsuit they're already fac- ing from Michael Jackson's estate, HBO is now being threatened with litigation from a man named Brett Barnes, who says that set-to-air docu- mentary Leaving Neverland inaccurately represents the re- lationship he had with the de- ceased King of Pop.
Barnes contends that the documentary insinuates that he was sexually abused by Jack- son. His argument is based around footage showing him and MJ together while the lat- ter was touring. Wade Rob- son, the alleged abuse victim the film focuses on, claims that Barnes "replaced him."
Barnes has reportedly hired a lawyer and threatened HBO with a lawsuit. He contends that the film portrays him in a false light and that it will also subject him to "hatred, con- tempt and ridicule." In addition

to retweeting a few statements that attempt to cast doubt on Robson's allegations, Barnes also wrote the following shortly after the doc premiered at Sun- dance in January:
Barnes previously testified at Jackson's criminal trial back in 2005, where he denied that he was ever sexually abused by Jackson.
