Tampa Man Wins $1 Million From Florida Lottery Scratch Off
Kids In Hillsborough County Can Receive Free Meals This Summer
We’re beginning to get used to this! This is the fourth win- ner in the Hillsbough County area in the last 5 months. A Tampa resident won big from a Florida Lottery scratch-off game.
John Carter, 45, of Tampa won $1 million in “The Fastest Road To $1,000,000” game from the Florida Lottery. The game is a $30 scratch-off ticket.
The winning ticket was pur- chased at Southside Shell, lo- cated at 3602 West Gandy
Boulevard in Tampa. The store will receive a $2,000 commis- sion for selling the winning ticket. Carter claimed his prize at the Tampa District Of- fice. He chose to take the one- time payment of $790,000.
“The Fastest Road To $1,000,000” game launched in February of 2020, and ac- cording to FlaLottery.com, there were 155 $1 million prizes available, 60 of which remain. There are also prizes ranging from $20 to $1,000,000.
A program for kids this Summer. Starting June 2, Hillsborough County Public Schools will begin its free sum- mer meals program to feed teens and children in need.
According to a release, the grab-and-go food distribution program will run from June 2 through Aug. 5.
Meals will be provided from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Mon- day and Wednesday at 36 curbside pickup sites, the dis- trict said.
Hillsborough Schools says families will get two days' worth of breakfast and lunch on both pickup days, providing food for students to eat each weekday. The program is open to all teens and kids 18 and younger.
"The needs of our children do not go away once the school year ends," the district wrote in its release.
Parents who arrive at the pickup sites without their child will need to provide their child's student number or the child's name and birthday so the school district can keep track of distribution, Hillsbor- ough Schools says.
The school district says all students enrolled in in-person
summer school programs will also be given free breakfast and lunch each day they are on campus.
“Our district stands ready to provide learners with criti- cal supports even during the summer. Offering students the opportunity to receive bal- anced meals throughout the week will lift a major burden off families who are still reel- ing from the impacts of the pandemic. I want to thank our Student Nutrition Services team as well as site adminis- trators for their dedication to this important initiative that serves our entire community,” said Superintendent Addison Davis in a statement.
