Trinity C.M.E. Church Ends Black History Lecture Series
Trinity C.M.E. Church concluded its 2020 Black History Lecture Series, an event held annually for the past thirty years of promot- ing awareness of Black his- torical events and important people to our community.
This year’s theme was
“Black History at the Movies,” and featured the showing of the following movies and brief discus- sions: “Hidden Figures,” “The Free State of Jones,” “Red Tails,” and “Selma.”
The highlight of the lec-

ture series was a very excit- ing and informative film, exhibit, presentation, and discussion held on February

22, and led by Steven Spears, the son of Tuskegee Airman Leon “Woodie” Spears.
Woodie Spears flew 51 missions during World War II and 17 missions during the Korean War. Spears spent his retirement years traveling up to fifty presen- tations a year, letting all Americans know about the history of the Tuskegee Air- men.
Participants enjoyed popcorn, pizza, and ham- burgers and drinks while viewing the films. The most frequently heard comment was “I never knew that part of the story before.”
Reverend Alton Mc-
Griff, Pastor of Trinity C.M.E. Church, was excited about the series because the stories in each of the films took place years before he was born. Members are al- ready looking forward to the 2021 lecture series.
The Trinity C.M.E. Church is located at 3558 North 29th Street and the board of Christian Educa- tion plans other informative events for the community during 2020.
