‘Black Panther’ Is Top Grossing Superhero Movie In U. S.
Pennsylvania Governor Supports Freeing
Meek Mill
Ryan Coogler’s Black Pan- ther has become the top-gross- ing superhero film of all time in North America, not accounting for inflation.
The Disney and Marvel release achieved the milestone Saturday (March 24) after passing up fel- low Marvel title The Avengers, which grossed $623.4 million in 2012. To boot, Black Panther is only one of seven films to ever earn $600 million or more domestically (it cur- rently ranks No. 6 on the list).
Black Panther has shattered numerous milestones since opening in theaters Feb. 16.
Globally, the film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. By the end of Sunday (March 25) it will leap past Iron Man 3 ($1.214 billion) to become the third-biggest comic book adap- tation behind The Avengers ($1.5 billion) and Avengers: Age
Meek Mill has been incarcerated since November, after being sentenced to 2-4 years for probation violation.
The campaign to #FreeMeekMill keeps getting bigger. Pennsylvania Gover- nor Tom Wolf took to Twit- ter Friday (March 23) to publicly endorse Philadel- phia District Attorney Larry Krasner’s position that Meek deserves to be freed on bail while the court decides if the judge in his case should be removed, and if his sen- tence should be overturned.
Wolf is also in favor of an overhaul of the state’s crimi- nal justice system, and says that his administration has made efforts to keep people
out of the system.
“I support D. A. Larry
Krasner’s position in the case of Robert Williams (Meek Mill),” Wolf tweeted. “Our criminal justice system is in need of repair. That’s why my admin has made efforts to invest in pro- grams that divert individuals from the system, improve public safety, and promote fairness.”
In a follow-up tweet, Wolf acknowledged that “more needs to be done” and reaf- firmed his support of the Jus- tice Reinvestment Initiative.

Killer Mike Apologizes
Interview Release
A federal appeals court has sided with the family of leg- endary soul singer Marvin Gaye in the closely-watched battle over Robin Thicke’s 2013 hit song "Blurred Lines," reports the Associated Press.
A three-judge panel from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected the defense’s appeal to overturn the original decision or order a new trial. The Gaye fam- ily was awarded $7 million in damages in 2015 after they filed a lawsuit against Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams.
The suit claimed "Blurred Lines" borrowed from Gaye’s
timeless song "Got To Give It Up." The award amount was later lowered to $5.3 million. The family was also given 50 percent of ongoing royalties from the song. Rapper T.I., who was also featured in the song, and Interscope Records are not liable in the case.
In a 2-1 vote, the panel de- cided the Gaye family was still entitled to those rewards. Judge Jacqueline Nguyen, the lone opponent of the deci- sion, believes this will set a neg- ative precedent for the music industry.
Howard King, Willi-
ams’s and Thicke’s attorney, praised Nguyen and reaffirmed his clients’ position.
“We stand by the fact that these are two entirely different songs," King said. "The thor- ough and well-reasoned dissent- ing judge's opinion is compelling and enhances the prospects for success in a fur- ther review by the Court of Ap- peals.”
Gaye family attorney Richard S. Busch released a statement praising the decision and refuted the assertion that this ruling would stifle artists’ creativity.
Killer Mike, one half of the Atlanta duo Run the Jewels, took to Twitter on Sunday to apologize for an NRA interview promoted by the organization on Satur- day, the same day as the na- tionwide March for Our Lives demonstration in sup- port of gun control.
While the rapper and ac- tivist fervently defended his interview online, he also subsequently posted two videos apologizing for the time of the interview’s re- lease, which, he says, gave the appearance that his com- ments were directed at the student organizers, includ- ing survivors of last month’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida, who planned the march in collaboration with the nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety.
According to Killer Mike, his interview by NRA personality Colion Noir was recorded over a week ago.
“I’m sorry, guys.
Killer Mike is finding his in- terview was used by the NRA to promote its propaganda.
I’m sorry that an inter- view I did about a minority, black people in this country, and gun rights was used as a weapon against you guys.
That was unfair to you and it was wrong, and it dis- paraged some very noble work you’re doing.”
Concluded Killer Mike, “I do support the march and I support black people own- ing guns. It’s possible to do both.”
