2017 Miss Teenage Tampa Scholarship Pageant
On Sunday, April 23, 2017, at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Gamma Theta Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incor- porated® held its annual Miss Teenage Tampa Scholar- ship Pageant. This is a signa- ture fundraising event for the Chapter and a sold-out crowd witnessed the pageantry of the theme -“We Will Rise Up: Eloquent Pearls for the Voice- less.”
Ms. ErrDaisha Floyd, was crowned 2017 Miss Teenage Tampa. She also won the Teen Scholar award.
Her motto is, “When they go low, you must go high.” She is a junior in the Interna-

tional Baccalaureate Program at Hillsborough High School. She is a member of the Speech & Debate Club, the National Honor Society and the Stu- dent Council. ErrDaisha serves on the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council. She as- pires to be United States at- torney. Her parents are Ms. LaKeshia Slaughter and the late Mr. Earl Floyd.
Other MTAT contestants were: Amiya Sloan, Lennard High School (1st Runner Up); Jada Kennedy, Sickles High School (2nd Runner Up); Kayla Blaine, Brooks De- Bartolo Collegiate High School (3rd Runner Up); Alexis Wheatley, Tampa Bay Tech High School (4th Runner Up); Cierra Celerin, Tampa Bay Tech High School; Marcayla Ja- cobs, Armwood High School; Kayla Kennedy, Sickles High School; Talia Sharri- eff, Academy of Holy Names; and JaDoni Smith, Sickles High School.
While each contestant will walk away from the 2017 pag- eant experience with very fond memories and new friends each contestant earned a minimum $1,000 scholarship award.
Commentators for the evening were WFLA News- caster, Rod Carter and Channel 28 show host, Ms. Laura Harris.
Ross Anderson, Ms. Sonya C. Little and Ms. Fentrice D. Driskell were the judges and scored the con- testants. Ms. Tracey Butler and Ms. Tina Edmonds were the tabulators. Mr. Charles Holloman, II was the timekeeper.
Zachary Lamar Carter, Bryce Moragne, Samuel Andrew Smith, Jacobi Speights, and Dexter Stall- worth served as escorts.
Ms. Shannon Legrand
paid tribute to the contestants with her rendition of Andra Day’s song, “Rise Up.” Ms. Legrand is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
Other entertainment for the evening included the Gamma Theta Omega Chap- ter Chorus, the Exciting Cen- tral Tampa Baptist Church Worship Band and Kandance Studios.
The 2017 MTAT Scholar- ship Pageant’s General Chair- man was Mrs. Tangela D. Dupree. Mrs. Dupree is also the 2nd Vice President of Gamma Theta Omega Chap- ter. The General Co-Chair- men were: Mrs. Carla White Sunday and Mrs. Monica Williams Harris. Ms. Deborah King Barnes is president of Gamma Theta Omega Chapter.
