Natural Tactics To Get Rid Of Bugs
Careful, You’ll Go Cross-Eyed!
Video games have been shown to offer significant bene- fits for children like tightening hand-eye coordination, but that doesn’t mean we want our chil- dren glued to the TV all sum- mer long – or worse, vegetating in the comments section of YouTube. When it comes to screen time moderation is key. Studies show that excessive screen time can lead to sleep disorders, obesity, and atten- tion deficit. Check out these tangible tips to help your chil- dren cut down while still allow- ing them to have some fun.
Set up screen free zones – that means no comput- ers, tablets, or video games in your children’s bed- rooms.
Limit quantity. Remem- ber the bit about modera- tion? Set a reasonable limit of 1 to 2 hours of screen and internet time for chil- dren and teens.
Turn it off for dinner! Your evening meal is im- portant family time and celebs or talking cartoon animals have no place in- truding.

Honey, I’m Coughing
Honey has been used throughout the ages – all the way back to the time of the an- cient Egyptians – in various salves, solutions, and reme- dies.
Although honey certainly built up its resume as a trusted healer across centuries and cultures, not all honey is the same. According to research,
it’s specifically the dark stuff you’re after, as it holds more antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Dark honeys over- all contain about 8 times more antioxidants than honeys that are lighter in color.
It is this high-quality honey you’ll find in Zarbee’s reme- dies like the 99% Honey Cough Soothers.
We know we should be drinking lots of water, but will just any old water suffice? For many who want to know the best source of water, the hard- est part is when we’re thirsty and ready to fill our cups. The bottled water industry markets its products as pure and safe, but their claims are not what they seem to be. Here are some compelling reasons to avoid bottled water.
Bottled Water Production Lacks Oversight
As a packaged food product, bottled water is regulated by the FDA whose rules are looser than the limits imposed by the EPA on tap water.
Beverages like sparkling water, seltzer water, soda water, tonic water, or club soda are considered “soft drinks,” and are exempt even from bottled water standards.
Most bottled water never crosses state lines for sale, which even exempts it from FDA oversight!
When tested, nearly one in four of the bottled waters vio- lated state contamination lim- its for bottled water, most commonly for arsenic or cer- tain cancer-causing, man- made (synthetic) organic compounds.
Drinking Plastic Isn’t Good For You
Plastic bottles break down and leach BPA and other en- docrine disrupters into the water you’re drinking, which can contribute to cancer, infer- tility, low sperm count, and even ADHD and asthma.
Bottled Water Is A Bad Value
Bottled water is more expen- sive per ounce than gasoline.
Bottled Water Means More Garbage
Consider this: 90 percent of seabirds now have plastic in their stomachs.
More Bottled Water Means Less Attention Paid To Public Water Systems
We should maintain high quality water fountains so that fresh, clean water can be avail- able to people at all times.
In the United States munic- ipal water is monitored under stringent EPA rules and un- dergoes regular inspections for bacteria and toxic chemicals.
However, given recent find- ings of toxins like lead in mu- nicipal water, the best plan is to filter tap water ideally using a solid block carbon filter for on-counter use or under-the- counter multi-stage filter.
Mosquitoes. The CDC says oil of lemon eucalyptus is an ef- fective natural mosquito repel- lent. Products containing the oil are widely available online.
Dog Ticks. Prevention is key. Put one drop of rose gera- nium oil between our dog’s shoulder blades and one at the top of the base of the tail, or two drops directly on the collar.
Pantry Moths. Wipe food containers and shelves with white vinegar and then place bay leaves inside the canisters and cupboards.
Ants. Vinegar deters ants from entering your home by overpowering the scent they would use to follow other ants’ footsteps. Mix a 50/50 solution
of vinegar and water in a spray bottle and squirt in places that are likely to attract ants such as the area around pet food bowls and other food sources.
Camel Crickets. These giant jumping crickets – which don’t bite by the way – may make a home in your base- ment. Use glue traps to dis- patch them.
