On Thursday, September 17th, the East Tampa Business and Civic Association and the Rainbow Heights Association Crime Watch will host a com- munity meeting. The event will be held at 6 p.m., at the Cyrus Greene Community Center, 2101 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a proposal to de- velopment low-income apart- ments for senior citizens. The proposal is to build a seven- story, 96-unit, apartment complex. The structure would be located just south of E. Hillsborough Avenue at 37th Street. The property, which is zoned commercial, was the former location of a pallet company.
The property is cur- rently approved for con- struction of up to 6 stories. However, the company is seeking spe- cial permission to add an additional 12 feet to the structure.
Ms. Dianne Hart, Presi- dent and CEO of the East
Tampa Business and Civic As- sociation said, “it is critical that the community come out and express their views. This is a tax generating proposal.
“We want the community to come out and give their sup- port for this project. The com- pany has already gotten approval for the land. But, they must obtain low-income tax credits from the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
“In order to do this, they will need the support of the community. So we are asking everyone to come out and ask questions. If the proposal is approved, construction is scheduled to begin in 2016,” Ms. Hart said.
A representative from the American Realty Development Corporation, which specializes in affordable senior apart- ments, will be on hand at the meeting. The representative will explain the proposed de- sign and answer questions from members of the commu- nity who attend the meeting.
Ms. Hart further stated that they are requesting jobs for members of the commu- nity and permanent jobs after itscompletion.
