A 3rd generation barber, who has been cutting hair since the age of 13, is opening Barbers R Us Plus II, 2929 N. 15th St., Tampa (33605), at the corner of 21st Ave., on Satur- day, May 27, 2017, with loads of activities going on from 10 a.m.to6p.m.

After the death of his

grandfather in 1993, Dee Barber and Mr. David, as he is known, was so distraught at the way a barber cut his hair, until he started cutting his own. He still does that.
He started taking barber- ing classes at Avante Tech and took additional classes at Shear Excellence, where he also taught.
On Saturday, Barbers R Us Plus II will have its grand opening. There will be a bounce house for the kids, free haircuts, free food, free de-
signer t-shirts, free raffle give- away, free smart watches, and a free cruise to the Bahamas.
Not only will haircuts be free on Saturday, but Gonza- lez said he will be giving back the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
“A haircut can make a dif- ference in a person’s life. It can make a difference in a per- son’s self-esteem or getting a job,” he said.
Gonzalez says he has al- ways been one to give back to the community. He worked closely with retired educator, Dr. Lewis Brinson in the program he founded, “Barbers and Fathers on Cutting Edge.” He also participates in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holi- day Parade. He has been fea- tured on ESPN and in the local daily.
Gonzalez and his wife, Keyla, a stylist, are parents to 4 children: Liliana, Gabriel, Alicia and Cherisse. His parents are Frances Day Gonzalez and David Gon- zalez, Sr., and he has 3 sis- ters and 2 brothers.
