Diddy Gets Emotional On Notorious BIG’s 45th Birthday
Jean-Michel Basquiat has been one of the most cele- brated visual artists in Hip Hop history.
Jay Z, Kanye West, Nas, J. Cole, Killer Mike, Rick Ross, Wale, A$AP Rocky, Vic Mensa, and many others have referred to the late neo- expressionist painter in their lyrics.
Rap fans should expect the name Basquiat to be men- tioned in even more songs in the future now that he holds the sales record for American artists.
Basquiat’s 1982 piece “Un- titled” sold for $110.5 million at a Sotheby’s auction on Thursday.
The painting was bought by Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maezawa.
Basquiat began as a 1970’s graffiti artist in New York City and later connected with pop culture icon Andy Warhol.
By the 1980s, he was ex- hibiting his neo-expressionist paintings in galleries and mu- seums internationally. The

As far as rap legends go, The Notorious B.I.G. is one of the most celebrated Hip Hop figures of all time. Born on May 21, 1972, Biggie exploded onto the Hip Hop scene with his debut album, 1994’s Ready To Die.
Sunday would have been his 45th birthday, but as fate would have it, the Brooklyn- bred MC was gunned down in 1997, bringing his life to an abrupt end at the ripe age of 24. Biggie’s closest friend, Sean “Diddy” Combs, went on a social media marathon Sunday (May 21) with several tributes to his fallen brother.
The first post came via Twit- ter late Saturday night (May

Basquiat's art focused on "suggestive dichotomies,” such as wealth versus poverty, inte- gration versus segregation, and inner versus outer experi- ence.
He died of a heroin overdose at age 27 in 1988.
