Cadet Of The Week
Tampa Native, FAMU Grad Is Army’s ‘Cadet Of The Week’
A Tampa native and grad- uate of Florida A&M Univer- sity, has been named “Cadet of the Week” by the U. S. Army.
In the Army’s press re- lease, Cadet Devin Myrick is described as one of the most dependable senior leaders within the program. His tal- ent, work ethic and maturity makes him one of the most ef- fective and impactful Cadets in the program, and his influence on the more junior Cadets is profoundly positive. Myrick is often sought out to mentor younger Cadets because of his commitment to excellence.
The release further states, Cadet Myrick consistently makes time to come back to the Battalion and help Cadets that need additional physical training. He also teaches box- ing and is learning new mar- tial arts three times a week in his spare time. Every Cadet

ROTC for the scholarship. But after attending basic training and advanced individual train- ing, I realized that the Army is more than just a means of pay- ing for college.
“While in ROTC I’ve had the opportunity to challenge the status quo, travel to Sene- gal, Africa while training with foreign militaries, building leadership and interpersonal skills. Less than 0.05% of the United States population serves in the Armed Forces and even less serve as commis- sioned officers. I am proud to be one of the few to lead Amer- ican soldiers.
“Colin Powell motivates me because he believes “Lead- ership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them.”
“The people affected by my
leadership attributes and com- petencies are the ones that motivate me as a leader. Ser- vant leadership is a leadership philosophy in which the main goal of the leader is to serve. A servant leader puts the needs of the subordinates first and helps people develop and per- form as highly as possible.”

- Coached and Competed on the Battalion’s Ranger Chal- lenge Team
- Served as the Battalion’s Color Guard Commander
- Awarded the Dean’s List Award with a GPA of 3.83
- Voted Mr. Army ROTC by Peers
- CU&LP Mission to Senegal, Africa
notices his work ethic and re- spects his drive. Cadet Myrick’s ability to excel at all these tasks, maintain a 3.83 GPA and serve as a Battalion Commander in the Rattler Battalion while obtaining his master’s degree is what sets
him apart and attracts other Cadets to his innate leader- ship. His major is Global Secu- rity & International Affairs.
