Planning Continues For 2017 Juneteenth Celebration
HEEM BAISDEN President, West Tampa Alliance, Spearheading Juneteenth Celebration
Planning for the 2017 Juneteenth Celebration in West Tampa is underway! This year is expected to be explosive, organizers of the
event say. Heem Baisden is President of the West Tampa Alliance, which is spearheading the weekend of events. The theme for the weekend is “Break Every Chain.”
Events for the weekend will kick-off with a Commu- nity Awards Banquet on
Friday evening, June 16th. The highlight of the weekend will be the Street Festival for the community. On Saturday, June 17th, the West Tampa Alliance is preparing for a street clo- sure for the festival that will extend from the corner of Fremont to Howard Ave.
The festival is scheduled to last from noon until 7 p. m. The feature for this event
will be the 9 National Pan- Hellenic Council Organiza- tions who will take to the stageat3P.M.foraGreek Yard Show. There will be food, games, vendors and lots of entertainment.
Everyone is encouraged to save the date!
The weekend will con- clude with a 2-hour Gospel Extravaganza. The event will be held 5-7 p. m. at Beu- lah Baptist Institutional Church, 1006 W. Cypress St., Rev. Dr. W. James Favorite, Pastor.
New Mt. Zion M. B. Church Celebrates Pastor’s 4th Anniversary
New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church celebrated the 4th Anniversary of its Pastor, Rev. Larry L. Roundtree, II, 1st Lady Sameya Roundtree, and their family last month.
The First Lady and Family Night was held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, with Rev. Ray- ford Harper, Pastor, and the First Baptist Church of West Tampa as guests.
Three services were held on Anniversary Sunday, April 9th. The 8 a. m. Speaker was Rev. Tone Lundy, Sr., Pas- tor of Friendship M. B. Church, Eustis.
The 11 a. m. Speaker was the Rev. Dr. Walter J. Williams, Pastor Emeritus of New Mt. Zion M. B. Church. Song service was provided by the New Mt. Zion Male Cho- rus.
The 4 p. m. Speaker was
Rev. Dr. N. S. Sanders, Pastor of Rev. Roundtree’s home church in Lakeland, St. Paul Institutional M. B. Church. He was accompanied by choir, ushers and congre- gants. Photos by Julia Jackson)
