Finalists Chosen For 2018 Excellence In Education Awards
3rd Annual Holiday Jazz Festival Planned

On Saturday, the commu- nity will have an opportunity to enjoy a special musical event. Beginning at 12 noon, the Third Annual Encore Jazz Festival will take place. It will be held at The Reed at Encore, 1240 Ray Charles Blvd., Tampa 33602.
This year’s lineup includes national Saxophonist Dee Lucas, Grammy nominated artist and producer Jose Valentino, and Trumpeter Lin Rountree. The lineup also includes local Saxophon- ist Marlon Boone and Nathan L. Mitchell, multi instrumentalist.
In addition to the talent lineup, those in attendance will also enjoy food and mer- chandise vendors.
The Third Annual Jazz Festival is presented by Tim Hancock, President of Jazz Tyme Productions, LLC. The event is supported by the

Tampa Housing Authority and sponsored by several local businesses and organiza- tions.
Hancock said, “This event is free and open to the public. This is our third year of offering it to the commu- nity and we just want people to come out and have a great time.”
During the festivals, indi- viduals may also donate socks for the Tampa Housing Au- thority’s Assisted Housing Department. The Assisted Housing Department helps support the homeless com- munity throughout the year.

On Tuesday, members of the Hillsborough Education Foundation visited several schools. Their purpose was to surprise the finalists of the “2018 Excellence In Educa- tion Awards.”
Thirteen individuals were informed that they were fi- nalists by the Surprise Patrol. A winner in each category will be chosen on January 16th at the awards ceremony. It is being presented by the Sun- coast Credit Union and will be held at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
The four finalists for the Ida S. Baker Diversity Educa- tor of the Year Award are:
Meredith Mullen, Mag- net Lead Teacher at Lockhart Elementary Magnet School; Christine Campbell, School Social Worker at Van Buren K-8 School; Jonathan Collier, Varying Exceptionalities Teacher at Spoto High School; and Ali- cia Fojaco, ESE Specialist at Sessums Elementary School.
