Brigadier General Ends 38-Year Career With Retirement

Brigadier General Johnnie L. Johnson, Jr., entered the Sig- nal Corps of the U. S. Army in 1982. Serving as a Tactical Automated Switching System Operator, Re- pairer, he was assigned to the Fed- eral Republic of Germany and at Fort Bragg, NC.
He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Armor, after graduating from the Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, GA. His most notable accomplishments as a lieutenant were leading his tank platoon in combat during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He also led thousands of soldiers in the 3rd In- fantry Division, 4th Battalion, and 64th Armored Regiment in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Brigadier General Johnson
earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Upper Iowa University; a Mas- ter of Science Degree from Central Michigan University and a Master 0f Science from the National War Col- lege.
His awards and decorations in- clude: Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, and the Army Staff Identifi- cation Badge.
Brigadier General Johnson has been married to Mrs. Melissa Johnson for more than 36 years. They are the parents of two adult children, Johnnie, III, and Je- Naye.
