    Johnny Depp Is Producing A
‘Queen And Slim’ Nabs A Promising $16 Million Holiday Debut
Along with Knives Out ($27 million Fri-Sun/$41 million Wed-Sun), the only other wide release newbie this holiday was Makeready’s Queen and Slim. The (cor- rectly) acclaimed drama, about a young black couple (Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith) who end up on the run after a first date ends with a fatal alterca- tion with a police officer, ended the long holiday with a robust $11.7 million Fri-Sun and $15.8 million Wed-Sun debut. That would be quite fine for the Universal release, as A) it’s entirely on brand for their “small movies with big

The $17 million Melina Matsoukas-directed and Lena Waithe-penned flick is a poetic love story going wrong. Must - see!
 Musical Based On Michael
Johnny Depp has signed on to produce a musical about the life of Michael Jack- son—and it'll be told from the perspective of the late artist's iconic sequined glove.
The stage show is titled For the Love of a Glove: An Unau- thorized Musical Fable About the Life of Michael Jackson, as told by his Glove. The music was written by playwright Julien Nitzberg, who said he had come up with the idea after a disagreement over a Jackson biopic script.
A major TV network wanted me to write a [Jackson] movie ... but the question came up [about] how to deal with the child-abuse allega- tions," he told Page Six. "I said, how’s this? Everything MJ has been accused of has actually been caused by his glove, which is actually an alien from outer space [and] feeds on virgin boy blood.

They laughed and said, can you do the normal version?"
Nitzberg said he refused and ultimately turned down the gig and "a really big pay- check."
He recalled thinking to him- self: "I'm going to go back to this ... and do this as a musical ... we just couldn’t get the fi- nancing."

'Star Wars' Billy Dee Williams Says He Identifies As Gender Fluid
The 82-year-old actor, best known for his role as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, opened up about his gender fluidity in a recent interview with Es- quire, while stressing the im- portance of being yourself.
"I never tried to be anything except myself. I think of myself as a relatively colorful charac- ter who doesn't take himself or herself too seriously," he ex- plained. "And you see I say 'himself' and 'herself,' because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine. I'm a very soft person. I'm not afraid to show that side of myself."
Williams will reprise his role as Lando in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which is set to hit theaters Dec. 20. The character was also played

by Donald Glover in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. Jonathan Kasdan, the film's co-writer, drew comparisons to the way Williams and
Glover portrayed Lando as a sexually fluid man.
"There's a fluidity to Don- ald and Billy Dee Williams' [portrayal of Lando's] sexual- ity," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it's time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity—sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of."
During the Esquire inter- view, reporter Matt Miller told Williams that Glover had embraced Lando's gen- der fluidity in Solo. The vet- eran actor lit up. "Really? That kid is brilliant—just look at those videos," he said in refer- ence to "This Is America."
