Tampa Police are investi- gating a shooting Sunday evening that left three people wounded with non-life threatening injuries.
Police received a call at 8:14 p. m. that there had been a shooting near East Lake Av- enue and Avon.
Based on preliminary in- formation, a group of people were standing near the bas- ketball court when one or more vehicles drove east on Lake Avenue. Shots were fired at the crowd from the vehicle.
Police said they don’t know who fired first and the suspect vehicle was described as a dark 4-door sedan or a red SUV.
Police said the shooting victims, Michael Johnson, 18; Raekwon Lyles, 15, and Tyrell Scott, 18, are not co- operating with police.
Johnson, Lyles, and Scott were transported to a local hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.
District III Commander,
Major Diane Hobley-Bur- ney, said they are working extremely hard to calm the shootings that have occurred throughout District III.
“We are putting officers on overtime to help stop the violence, especially during Spring break.
“What’s disappointing is the lack of cooperation we are getting from the victims and witnesses. That ties our hands and disrupts the investiga- tion. I understand there is a since of fear, but they can speak to us anonymously.”
Major Hobley-Burney
said young people are seeking street justice instead of legal justice, and it’s frustrating for her and her officers, because they can’t be everywhere.
“We’ve put officers in the areas where the shootings are occurring at key times. We hope their presence will serve to calm everyone down.”
