the Black Business Bus Tour. The tour visited 16 local busi- nesses owned and operated by African Americans.
Someone broke into the van of retired Sergeant Rufus Lewis about 15 years before and took his briefcase. The briefcase contained his wallet, his personal identification, and the retirement badge presented to him by the Tampa Police De- partment.
Chief Brian Dugan in- vited several retired members of the department for a “Chat and Chew.” It was then that Chief Dugan learned about the stolen badge and replaced it.
Jane Castor, former Tampa Police Chief filed to run for the Office of Mayor of the City of Tampa. She joins several others bidding for the position.
Dr. Joan Holmes retired from Hillsborough Community College (HCC).
She joined the staff at HCC under the leadership of the late Dr. Gwendolyn Stephenson in September 2009.
Her role was Special Assis- tant to the President for Equity, Diversity, and Special Pro- grams. She was responsible for the College leadership for diver- sity, hiring practices, and medi- ating equity conflicts.
The Warren Hope Dawson Elementary School, 12961 Boggy Creek Drive, held its opening ceremony. It was named in honor of Attorney Warren Hope Dawson, a longstanding and prominent Tampa attorney.
