Morehouse College’s
Tuskegee University Fires President
Interim President
The Tuskegee University Board of Trustees did not renew the contract of the school’s president.
It was announced June 1 on the school’s website that June 30 will be the last day of the tenure of Brian L. Johnson who took over leadership of the school at Tuskegee, Ala. in 2014.
Acting as interim president
will be Charlotte Morris who served as interim presi- dent in 2010 before the hiring of Gilbert Rochon who re- placed Benjamin Payton. She was serving as Payton’s executive associate at the time.
Most recently, Morris has served as interim dean of the university’s Andrew F. Brim- mer College of Business.
Dies Suddenly
ATLANTA, GA — The Morehouse College commu- nity is mourning the sudden death of interim president William “Bill” Taggart.
Taggart, who was named interim president in April, died suddenly after suffering an aneurysm last Wednesday night.
Taggart is an Atlanta na- tive who graduated from Howard University.
The college’s board of trustees released the follow- ing statement about his death.
Taggart, 55 at the time of his death, was an engaged member of the broader At- lanta community as a mem- ber of the Rotary Club of Atlanta, Children Healthcare of Atlanta, and other area or- ganizations, according to the college. He also served as CEO of Atlanta Life Financial
Brian Johnson has been fired by the board. Charlotte Morris will be the interim president.
William ‘Bill’ Taggert was named interim president of Morehouse College in April, after the board fired President John Robinson.

While he served just two
months as interim president before his untimely death, Taggart is remembered by students and faculty for his drive to better Morehouse for its students.

The Country Bumkin clothing line was the brainchild of Javier High and Treon Young.

JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI - The entrepreneurial wheels are in motion at Jackson State University, as rising seniors Javier High and Treon Young both have become trailblazers in the business world creating their own suc- cessful clothing lines.
Young, a rising Senior Busi- ness Entrepreneurship Major from Greenville, MS. serves as CEO and Creative Director of Country Bumkin.
The aim of Country Bumkin
is to give the South a brand that they can identify them- selves with.
“Our slogan is We Make It Cool To Be Southern and Fly to Be Country. The slogan repre- sents how we stand against the stereotypes of Mississippi.” The creation of Country Bumkin came into fruition as Treon grew up in the Mississippi Delta.
The company has received purchases from as far as Italy from people interested in
wearing the brand.
Students at Jackson State
have expressed to Treon how the creation of his business has personally inspired them to start their own business.
Treon is currently working with overseas manufactures to put out a Fall 2017 collection, as well as a magazine in the near future.

Chevrolet is putting more students in the driver’s seat with the expansion of its Dis- cover the Unexpected (DTU) fellowship program.
Now in its second year, DTU provides college stu- dents from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) the opportunity to change the narrative of media reporting in the African American community with the help of the National Newspaper Publishers Asso- ciation (NNPA).
The eight 2017 DTU Fel-
lowship Program students are Jordan Fisher and Tiana Hunt of Clark Atlanta Uni- versity, Taylor Burris of Spelman College, Darrell Williams of Morehouse Col- lege, Kelsey Jones of Spel- man College, Ayron Lewallen of Morehouse Col- lege, Noni Marshall and Alexa Imani Spencer of Howard University.
Students will work in part- nership with NNPA member newspapers in Washington D.C., Atlanta, New Orleans and Raleigh-Durham.
