Tampa Man Dies After Being Shot
Police Investigate Death Of 27-Year-Old Man

The Tampa Police Depart- ment is currently investigating the death of a 27-year-old Tampa man. His body was dis- covered in the bushes last Monday.
According to a spokesper- son with the Tampa Police De- partment, the body of Eric Deandre Bentley, Jr., was discovered in the 4900 block of Sheridan Avenue.

Theft Ring Takes Over $10,000 In Merchandise
The detectives with the Tampa Police Department are currently investigating a double shooting. One of the victims in the shooting died as a result of his injuries.
According to police, offi- cers responded to 1716 E. 18th Avenue, shortly before 2 a.m., Sunday, in reference to shots being fired. When offi- cers arrived at the scene, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were trans- ported to local hospitals. One of the victims, 55-year-old DuVaughn A. Shaheed, of Tampa, died as a result of his injuries.
Police have not released the identity of the second man or his condition.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is currently in- vestigating a series of shoplift- ing events that netted more than $10,000 in merchandise. The suspects have struck three stores to date.
According to police, in the first incident, four Black women entered the Walmart, 1208 E. Brandon Blvd., se- lected merchandise, removed price tags, and fled the scene. The property taken was valued at $4,756.08. The offense took place around 11 p.m., on Sep-

The suspects fled the scene in a gold colored, 4-door 2006 Hyundai.
Two days later, shortly be- fore 8 p.m., two Black women enterED the Walmart, 4928 Highway 674, in Wimauma. The women loaded items into shopping carts and walked out of the store. The value of the property taken was $2,226.40.
Police said they were ob- served leaving in a gold col-
ored, 4-door 2006 Hyundai. The third theft took place on September 19th, at the same Walmart Store in Wimauma. Three Black women walked into the store, loaded three shopping carts with merchan- dise and left the store. The value of the property taken
was $3,486.50.
This time, the suspects fled
the scene in a dark-colored SUV or minivan.
The company lost a total of $10,469.07 in merchandise during the three incidences.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is asking any- one with information about the thefts to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873- TIPS or www.crimestopper- stb.com.
Anyone who provides in- formation leading to the iden- tity or whereabouts of the suspects may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $3,000. Callers can remain anony- mous.
Man Indicted On Tax Fraud Charges
A 41-year-old Tampa man has been indicted on federal tax fraud charges. He is ac- cused of participating in a scheme to defraud the gov- ernment of money.
According to the federal superseding indictment, Rico Simmons and his co-con- spirators are accused of the theft of government property, access device fraud, and ag- gravated identity theft.
Officials said Simmons used the Square Inc., mer- chant accounts related to the local restaurants to process third party debit cards that contained fraudulently-ob- tained income tax refunds, which Simmons provided to the restaurant owners.
The money was then with- drawn from the bank ac- counts that were linked to their Square Inc., accounts.
The indictment outlines 8 incidents in which the debit cards were used, followed by withdrawals. The incidents began September 3, 2012 and continued through November

Simmons is also accused
of having a federal income tax refund issued to two other people, directed to an H & R Block debit card, issued to Simmons. The IRS de- posited $17,792 on to the card, officials said.
The indictment stated that the conspirators obtained at least $33,445 operating the scam.
Simmons is currently serving a 3-year sentence at Polk Correctional Institution.
Three women and a man are being sought in connection with a theft from a business. All four suspects appear to be in their early 20s.
On September 12th, at ap- proximately 7:45 p.m., the three women and man entered the Marshall’s Department Store, 3661 W. Waters Avenue. The foursome then concealed property on their persons and inside bags they brought into the store with them.
They then fled the scene without paying for the mer- chandise.
