On Sunday, February 14th, “A Brunch of Love,” Tampa’s premiere Valentine’s Day event, will be held at Aja Channelside, 290 South Meridian Avenue.
Workaholics Marketing Group, Team Taste So Good and QC Party Starters part- nered to do something inno- vative for this holiday event, and have chefs flying in from Jacksonville, Florida, and Chicago, Illinois.
Workaholics Marketing Group Representative, Khalil Majied, said the idea came to him after 2006 when he de- veloped a program for the homeless.
“We started off delivering holiday cards to homeless people in Orlando, and from that came the idea of promot- ing special events for the holi- days.
“Everyone doesn’t recog- nize holidays the same, so we decided to get away from tra- dition and do something dif- ferent.”
Majied said it was difficult getting all the chefs together for this event, describing it as a “logistics mess.
“But, it all worked out, and the chefs worked collectively to come up with the menu for the Brunch.
“We will have live enter- tainment provided by Tampa’s “Beat Down Band,” and there will also be a DJ.”
KHALIL MAJIED
More than 300 people are expected to attend this event, and Majied said although brunch is not something pop- ular with African Americans, this is his gift to East Tampa where he grew up.
“Generational poverty is in abundance, and events like this try to break that chain and establish a sense of pride and unity.
“Having an event during the day is innovative, and a step away from the traditional night events.”
