Two local founders of serv- ice organizations have joined forces to celebrate grandmoth- ers. The event, entitled “Grandmothers Valen- tine’s Day Gala” is pur- posely being tied with Valentine’s Day Celebration, “Give Them Their Flowers While They Yet Live.”
The event will take place on Sunday, February 14th at Uni- versity Community Center, 14013 N. 22nd Street, Tampa, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Ms. Tonya Lewis,
founder of Children With A Vi- sion, Inc., said “This is to honor the grandmothers who are rais- ing their grandchildren in the community. And to say, ‘Thank you,’ This is just a small token of blessings and gratitude we can show.”
Mrs. Sheliah Young- blood, founder of Our Sisters- Our Friends, is co-hosting the event.
She said, “We greatly ap- preciate all the effort you put forth to endure the raising of your grandchildren. We thank you for your courage and paving the way for all of us.”
The Commentator for the evening is Ebone Cruz, of On The Cruz.
Two hundred pre-selected grandmothers will be greeted by 150 young men from the community and organizations. The young men will represent Men of Vision, The Walk Group, Male Inc., Saving Our Sons, and more. The escorts will range in age from 7-18.
Fraternity and Masonic Or- ganizations will oversee serving the food with youth escorts.
Special entertainment will be provided by DJ Tee Pee (Tony Payne) and solo artists Floyd Joy Rivers, of Tampa, and Jeanie Nelson, of Or- lando.
In addition to an evening of dining and fellowship, the grandmothers will receive roses and gift bags.

CAROLINE
It’s an honor to have a name that has been made popular in a song, and this week’s Spotlight feature has such an honor. Caroline never runs out of en- ergy, and is constantly seeking ways to improve her- self. When it comes to desire and determination, Caroline has it in abundance, and sometimes others try to have some of her energy rub off on them. Con- gratulations to Caroline for appearing as this week’s Spotlight feature.
