Florida Competitive Workforce
Act Postponed
As Equality Florida contin- ues their efforts for inclusion and equality, the Florida Sen- ate Judiciary Committee dis- cussed the Florida Competitive Workforce Act (SB 120) Mon- day. The bill would add sexual orientation and gender identity to existing state non-discrimi- nation laws.
After two hours of discus- sion and public testimony, the bill was postponed and will possibly be brought back up in the next Senate Judiciary meeting.
Equality Florida CEO, Na- dine Smith, said they are not
done.
“The bill lives to fight an-
other day, and we will continue to push lawmakers to vote in support of basic non-discrimi- nation protections for LGBT Floridians.
“Florida is at a historic crossroads, and the nation is watching to see whether law- makers turn the third-largest state in the country toward progress, or lurch it back- wards.”
During the discussions of the bill, Senators defeated a sweeping religious exemption amendment.
