Michael Jordan Gives Kobe Bryant The Retirement Gift To End All Retirement Gifts
KOBE BRYANT’S RETIREMENT GIFT
Leave it to Michael Jor- dan to give Kobe Bryant the best retirement gift of his re- tirement tour.
His Jordan Brand gifted Bryant with a full set of all the sneakers that have been re- leased so far in the Air Jordan line on Saturday at the Jordan Brand’s all-star party.
That’s 30 pairs of shoes, if you’re counting at home, and the white set goes to Kobe. The black set (in Bryant’s size US14) shown in Nike’s photo was auctioned off via eBay For Charity. It went for $240,100.
Russell Westbrook Wins Second Straight All-Star Game MVP Award
Quarterfinals Against Mitchell 52-36
After the Hillsborough boy’s basketball team’s 52-36 victory over Mitchell in the re- gional quarterfinal, coach Chris Ward had a simple message for the team.
“This is not a team built around superstars,” he said. “Everyone is good at what they do. Good teams don’t worry about who scores the most.”
Of the seven players that appeared in the game for the Terriers, three of them (Tim Lawrence, Bryce Mor- agne, and Zach Carter) had at least ten points, and all but one of them grabbed at least two rebounds.
Although the team “full ex- pected to win,” according to junior point guard Dexter Stallworth, the Terriers led by only 4 points at half time, with the score at 20-16. The first half was mistake-prone by both teams, with multiple turnovers and a plethora of missed shots.
The third quarter was when the Terriers turned on the
heat. The Terriers went on 6- minute run where they outscored Mitchell 12-0, and was headlined by the play of the game: a thundering two- handed dunk by junior Bryce Moragne. “I knew it was over after that,” said Stallworth. “We got turnt.”
Although Moragne took the hardest shots, it was junior Zach Carter that led the team in points, with 17.
The next game is a rematch against Armwood in the re- gional semifinals. The Terriers played them three times this season, losing once by a score of 59-52, and winning twice (once in the district finals) by scores of 50-46 and 47-45.
For the second straight year, Russell Westbrook took home NBA All-Star Game MVP honors as the Western Conference logged a record-setting 196-173 win over the East on Sunday.
In an edition that toppled last year’s mark for total points, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard poured in a team-high 31 points and filled the rest of the stat sheet with eight rebounds, five assists and five steals in 22 minutes.
Westbrook told ESPN’s Sage Steele after the game that he was surprised to win the award.
“I was honestly surprised I won it again,” Westbrook said. “I was very surprised to have my name called. I’m happy and blessed to be in the game again and for the oppor- tunity.”
Westbrook garnered six of a possible 12 MVP votes, with Indiana Pacers forward
RUSSELL WESTBROOK Paul George and Los Ange-
les Lakers forward Kobe Bryant — playing in his 18th and final All-Star Game — each taking two. Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul and Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry each earned one. All Westbrook’s votes came from media voters, while both of Bryant’s votes originated from the Twitter fan vote, of which there were three.
George scored a game- high 41 points, including bury- ing nine 3-pointers, and fell two points shy of Wilt Chamberlain’s All-Star record of 42 points.

Broncos’ Aqib Talib Fined $26,044 For Super Bowl 50 Penalties
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib’s bonus for a Super Bowl win won’t be as big as his teammates’ this time around.
While all of the Broncos players earned a $102,000 bonus as part of the 24-10 vic- tory over the Carolina Pan- thers in Super Bowl 50, Talib was fined $26,044 for two of his penalties in the game.
Talib was flagged for taunting with just less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter. He was later flagged for another personal foul with less than 12 minutes remaining in the second quar- ter when he grabbed the face mask of Panthers wide re- ceiver Corey Brown and twisted Brown to the ground.
AQUIB TALIB
After the game, Talib con- ceded he had held on to Brown’s facemask intention- ally, saying “one I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him.’‘ Several of Talib’s teammates talked with him on the sideline after the penalty, trying to settle down the Pro Bowl cornerback.
After the game Talib said: “It’s probably going to be a fine, but hey, we’re world champs.’‘
