BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Recently, the Hillsbor- ough County School Board approved the promotion of a longtime employee to serve as the new Manager of Facil- ities Maintenance Support. His new responsibilities will include the supervision of ap- proximately 500 employees.
As Manager, Benjamin Moore’s responsibilities will include managing the Facili- ties Five-Year Plan and main- taining contracts with architectural and engineering firms in accordance with Dis- trict Policy. He will also work with the Operations Division Planning and Construction Department on standards for new construction and reno- vation projects, as well as serve as the liaison between the Planning and Construc- tion and the Maintenance Departments.
Moore previously served as the Supplier Diversity Of- ficer and was responsible for overseeing the functions of the Small Business Encour- agement Program. Under his leadership, the Office of Sup- plier Diversity surpassed the program’s record in the num- ber of vendor contracts, and experienced consecutive

record years in the use of eli- gible small businesses in con- struction-related spending, among other accomplish- ments. The department also increased its spending with Goods & Services more than 30%. As a result, the District won the Central & North Florida Minority Supplier Development Council’s Buyer of the year award at its 2015 Annual Meeting.
Of his promotion, Moore said, “This opportunity will take my last four years as Dis- trict Supplier Diversity Offi- cer and allow me to impact our children and the commu- nity in an expanded direct
role.
“With our internal Dis-
trict partners and District Construction Management firms, the success we realized in the use of small, women and minority owned vendors in a wide range of Goods & Services categories and our construction – related efforts reflects the same kind of working partnerships I look forward to continuing.”
Chris Farkas, District Chief Operating Officer said, “Ben’s demonstrated ability to build working relation- ships, his knowledge of Dis- trict and Maintenance day to day operational practices and his outstanding performance as the District’s Supplier Di- versity Officer made him the ideal candidate for this criti- cal role in the Operations Di- vision.”
A Tampa native, Moore graduated from Tampa Bay Technical High School. After graduation, he entered the workforce.
Moore is married and the father of 3. He also has 2 grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family and fishing.
Moore was hired by the Hillsborough County School District in 1983, and was pro- moted into management.
More Than 93,000 Ballots Mailed To Hillsborough County Voters
The Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elec- tions mailed more than 93,000 ‘Vote By Mail’ bal- lots to domestic voters last Friday.
"We actively encourage
Vote By Mail because it's
such a convenient way to
vote. Voters can take time
at home to research candi-
dates before marking their
ballot, and they don't have
to worry about something else coming up to keep them from voting on election day," said Craig La- timer, Supervisor of Elections.
Voters have until 5 p. m. March 9 to request that a Vote By Mail ballot for the Presidential Prefer- ence Primary be sent to them. Ballots will be mailed within two days of receiving those requests. Voters can also visit any of the four Supervisor of Elections offices and have a Vote By Mail ballot printed for them.
According to state law, only registered Democrats and Republicans are eligible to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary Election.
In Hillsborough County, Vote By Mail ballots arrive with a postage-paid return envelope, so once voters have marked their ballot and signed the envelope, they can just drop the sealed envelope in the mail.
The ballots can also be returned in person to any of the Supervisor of Elections offices or Early Vote sites. (Hillsborough County will have 15 Early Vote sites open February 29 - March 13, 10 a. m. - 6 p. m.)
Completed Vote By Mail ballots must be in the Supervisor of Elections office no later than 7 p. m. March 15.
