A 52-year-old Pasco County woman was convicted by a federal jury last week. She was found guilty of ob- taining more than $500,000 by providing false informa- tion and obstruction.
According to court docu- ments, in March 2009, Ms. Ingrid McBride Rich, of New Port Richey, submitted a fraudulent tax return to the IRS for tax year 2008 that re- sulted in her obtaining a re- fund in the amount of $510,222.
After obtaining the refund check, she deposited it into a new bank account, and then immediately began transfer- ring the money into various accounts (in her name and in the name of entities she owned) using cashier’s checks and cash transfers to prevent the IRS from recov- ering the money.
She also sent the IRS friv- olous correspondence, in- cluding bogus money orders and tax documents, while the

IRS was attempting to collect the money.
As a result of Ms. Rich’s obstruction, the IRS was only able to recover a small amount of the money fraud- ulently obtained.
Ms. Rich was indicted December 13, 2013. She faces a maximum penalty of five years for the false claim charge and up to three years in federal prison for the ob- struction charge.
Her sentencing hearing has been set for November 14, 2017.
