Grand Jury Indicts Teenager On 1st-Degree Murder Charge
Gunshot Victim Dies Of Injuries Days Before Birthday
The shooting took place on December 6th in the 2300 block of N. Nebraska Avenue.
Last week, prosecutors with the Hillsborough State Attorney’s Office obtained an indictment from a Hillsbor- ough County grand jury charging 16-year-old Ja- Marion Strange with first- degree murder. He is accused of fatally wounding 13-year-old TyQuahn Johnson on November 23rd. The victim died two days later.
The shooting took place at the intersection of N. 22nd Street and E. 26th Avenue, near the Lee Davis Neighbor- hood Service Center.
According to the Tampa Police Department, on the day of the shooting, officers responded to the area in ref- erence to several calls about shots being fired. When they arrived, they discovered that TyQuahn Rashard John- son was suffering from gun- shot wounds. He was transported to a local hospi- tal, where he died on Thanks- giving Day.
After the shooting, detec- tives gathered evidence and

with the help of videos, wit- nesses, and tips from the public, were led to JaMar- ion Strange as the suspect. Strange was already in cus- tody and being held on three felony charges, two aggra- vated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of shooting at/within/or into a building. Police said the charges stemmed from an incident that took place on November 8th. Strange is ac- cused of opening fire on Johnson’s home while fam- ily members were inside. Police said the shooting
was the result of an ongoing dispute between the teenagers.
Strange was arrested Saturday and charged with first-degree murder and being a minor in possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
The indictment automati- cally places Strange into the adult court system. Because he is under 18, the maximum sentence for Strange, if con- victed, is life in prison.
A Tampa man has died days before his 31st birthday. He was injured by gunfire last Monday night.
According to Tampa Po- lice, the shooting took place shortly after 11 p. m., on De- cember 6th. The unidentified victim was in the 2300 block when he was injured by gun- fire. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died a few days later. He would
have celebrated his 31st birth- day on December 14th.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is continuing.

Man Faces Attempted Murder After Shooting At Deputies
A 35-year-old man has been taken into custody and is facing several charges. He is accused of shooting at three Hillsborough County deputies.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, on December 9th deputies re- sponded to reports of shots fired at the Wash Up Brandon Car Wash, 830 E. Brandon Blvd., just after 12:45 p. m. Deputies arrived at the scene just minutes later. Upon ar- rival, the deputies witnessed Daniel Lighty, 35, of South Carolina firing a weapon.
As deputies approached Lighty, he began firing shots towards them, striking a marked patrol vehicle. Deputies continued towards Lighty while taking cover be- hind nearby businesses for safety. One deputy returned fire as Lighty continued to

shoot at them. No one was struck during the incident.
The HCSO SWAT and the Crisis Negotiation Team were activated. After firing several rounds, Lighty retreated into his vehicle and contacted the HCSO 9-1-1 dispatch center claiming he was frustrated with the mental health care he received at a local hospital.
HCSO dispatchers, along with a crisis negotiator, were
able to encourage Lighty to surrender without further vi- olence. Lighty was arrested and taken into custody before 1:45 p. m.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said, “The deputies displayed a great deal of skill, team- work, and bravery. Although this individual appears to have been suffering from a mental health crisis that does not for a moment excuse his reckless violence.
“Lighty’s actions put sev- eral lives at risk, and those ac- tions will not go unpunished. He will get the help he needs, this time not in a hospital, but in our jail,” he said.
Lighty is currently facing several charges including three counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The investigation is continuing.
