Tampa Native, Dialysis Nurse Honored By National Kidney Foundation

Last Thursday, March 8, 2018, was World Kidney Day.
To recognize this day, the Na- tional Kidney Foundation held re- ceptions to honor members of local communities that have been outstanding in the fight against kidney disease.
Persons all over the world were honored.
The dollars raised from these events support the National Kid- ney Foundation’s awareness, pre- vention and treatment efforts.
A Tampa native, Robyn Jones, MSN, RN, CDN, VHA- CM, was honored in Richmond, Virginia. She was one of 4 ho- nored in Virginia.

In an interview with her local
television station, Ms. Jones says her nursing career was sparked by caring for an ill aunt and her mother told her she should go to nursing school. She did.
Ms. Jones was joined at the awards ceremony by her mother, Mrs. Erma Griffin, Tampa resident, and other family mem- bers.
In addition to dedicating nu- merous hours to her professional career, Ms. Jones is also a direc- tor of movies. Her last movie, “The Turnaround,” has received sev- eral awards.
This past weekend, she was in the Bay Area visiting family, while on her way to Gainesville with her team to prepare for another movie she is directing and producing.
State Attorney Warren Creates Community Council; Apply Now

Last Friday, Andrew War- ren, Hillsborough County State Attorney, announced the creation of a new Community Council.
Its purpose is another step in his commitment to community en- gagement and transparency.
The Community Council will consist of 20 residents and organi- zation representatives who will represent the diversity of Hillsbo- rough County.
The Council will support the State Attorney’s mission to build a safer community while promoting justice and fairness for everyone.
Attorney Warren said, “Through this proactive approach to engagement, members can serve as liaisons between our office and the diverse communities in which we live and serve. The State Attorney’s Office Community Council is a big step forward in fa- cilitating open and solution-driven dialogue to build a safer, stronger, Hillsborough.”

Of the initial Council, 10 mem- bers will serve a 1-year term, and 10 members will serve a 2-year term. The members who serve the initial 1-year term will be selected at random.
A spokesperson for the State Attorney’s Office said the follow- ing organizations have been cho- sen to participate in the Council.
They are: the NAACP, Council on American-Islamic Relations, Equality Florida, Hispanic Serv- ices Council, Faith in Florida, Safe & Sound Hillsborough, The Crisis Center, and DAACO.
“We have selected these organ- izations, but that does not exclude other organizations. They can apply as an at-large member,” Ms. Sammecia Bagley said.
The Council meets every other month on the fourth Tuesday, ex- cept for the inaugural meeting, at the Office of the State Attorney, lo- cated at 419 N. Pierce Street, 2nd Floor, Tampa, FL 33602, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., unless oth- erwise designated.
The first meeting will take place on April 10, 2018.

Applicants will undergo a back- ground check.
To remain active, members must: reside in Hillsborough
County or be a current member and designated representative of one of the listed organizations; and attend at least 4 meetings within a calendar year.
The State Attorney has the right, at his sole discretion, to re- move any member or organization from the Council, change the membership composition, change the number of members, and make any other changes to the Council membership.
