Public Park Site In Baltimore Renamed Harriet Tubman Grove
BALTIMORE, MD — A public park area in Baltimore that once honored two Confed- erate Army generals has been renamed for civil rights icon Harriet Tubman.
Hundreds of people, in- cluding city officials and Tub- man family members, gathered in Wyman Park Dell for the ceremony on Saturday, held on the 105th anniversary of her death, The Baltimore Sun re- ported.
The site, now named Har- riet Tubman Grove, features a barren pedestal that once held bronze statues of Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson on horseback.
Mayor Catherine Pugh’s
administration ordered the re- moval of all four of the city’s Confederate monuments in August following the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. It’s unclear when or if the three other former Confederate me- morial sites will be rededi- cated.
Hundreds of people including family members attended the rededication ceremony held on the 105th anniversary of Harriet Tubman’s death.
Man Kills And Sets Ex-Girlfriend Afire Over Paternity Test
Antwuan Ware is being held on $1 million bond for the mur- der of his ex-girlfriend, Jasmine Dunbar.
PHOENIX, AZ —A young mother who was last seen with a former boyfriend was killed and set afire.
She had told two people that they were going to get a pater- nity test for her baby, Phoenix police said last Thursday.
Authorities searching a field in Glendale found a burned body tentatively identified as Jasmine Dunbar, 21. The re- mains were discovered last Wednesday after police inter- viewed the ex-boyfriend, Antwaun Travon Ware, 20.
Ware “admitted he had a physical altercation with Jas- mine and punched her a num- ber of times with his fist,” police said in a probable cause statement.
Ware told police Dunbar was still alive when he dumped her body in a field. He then
dropped her 7-month-old daughter in a car seat along a street about 4 miles from her mother’s home, police said. He told officers he left her there because, "He saw people nearby and believed they would find her and take care of her."
Ware then returned to where he had dumped the child's mother.
According to the police re- port, Ware "put a piece of paper on the body and then poured gasoline on her. He then set it afire with a cigarette. Antwaun watched as Jas- mine burned and the fire put itself out.”
Ware was jailed on suspi- cion of first-degree murder, kidnapping, abandonment of a body and child abuse. His bond was set at $1 million Thursday.
