Jeffrey Rhodes Announces Candidacy For Tampa City Council, District 5
Jeffrey Rhodes, a lifetime member of the Tampa commu- nity and Licensed Funeral Di- rector and Co-owner of Ray Williams Funeral Home, Inc., has filed to run for Tampa City Council, District 5. The seat is currently held by Councilman Frank Reddick, who is term- limited in 2019.
A West Tampa resident, Rhodes is running as a pro- gressive community leader.
“I am pleased to announce my candidacy to represent the great people of the City of Tampa, District 5. As an entre- preneur of a community based business and representative on many boards, I have had the opportunity to hear the con- cerns and issues in our neigh- borhoods. I would like to take my experience to be the next City Councilman for District 5 by providing leadership and representation that is sensitive to the community needs.”

ceived his degree in Funeral Services Education/Mortuary Science from Miami-Dade Col- lege. He furthered his studies in the area of Business Manage- ment/Political Science at St. Leo University.
Rhodes is a very active and involved community leader. He is involved in several profes- sional, civic, community and social organizations. He is a longtime board member of Tampa Organization of Black
Affairs (TOBA), where he is the Political Chair. He participated and helped organize Souls to the Polls, voter registration drives and several political fo- rums along with the local NAACP.
Rhodes stated that “Councilman Reddick has served District 5 well. I plan to tackle the unfinished business while preparing for new chal- lenges facing our community.”
Recently, Rhodes was reappointed by the Tampa City Council to serve on the West Tampa CRA (Community Re- development Association).
Rhodes is newly engaged to Veronica Frank Johnson and is the proud father of 2 young adult children, Jonathan and Gianna Rhodes. He is a member of Greater Bethel Missionary Bap- tist Church and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

STEM Competition Deadline Extended
Rockville Centre, NY —- The Center for Science Teach- ing & Learning, (CSTL), has ex- tended the application deadline for the 2018 Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition. The new deadline is March 30, 2018.
This unique international research and design challenge for pre-college youth encour- ages scientific understanding of real-world environmental and energy use challenges.
This year’s theme is “Solv- ing Climate Change.” Teams are challenged to iden- tify and analyze specific prob- lems associated with climate change in detail before design- ing a clean technology solution.
Monetary prizes are pro- vided to the top 10 finalists with $10,000 awarded to the
winner. The winning team will also be flown to Rome, Italy to be guest presenters at the World Congress on Climate Change in September 2018.
CSTL is accepting applica- tions from high schools repre- senting teams of 1 to 3 students between ages 15 and 18. The Competition’s finals will take place at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York, on Thursday, July 12. Teams will present to judges and display their innovative solutions.
