MRS. DOROTHY WILHAMENA BROWN CANTY
Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Dorothy Wilhamena Brown Canty will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at 10 a. m. at Salem Baptist Church, 2741 Wood- land Road, Abington, PA, with Rev. Marshall Paul Hughes Mitchell, officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tues- day from 9 – 10 a. m. Interment will follow in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, PA.
Dorothy Wilhamena Brown Canty was born June 10, 1921 in Sumter, South Carolina. Affec- tionately known as, “Mena,” she was the oldest of six children born to Samuel Morris Brown, Sr. and Mattie Harrison Brown. As a young child, her parents moved the family to Jacksonville, Florida from Sumter and ultimately to Tampa, Florida.
She attended the Hillsborough County Public Schools and gradu- ated from Middleton Senior High School.
After graduation, Mena re-
turned to Sumter where she at- tended Morris College and gradu- ated Magna Cum Laude. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Ed- ucation, Mena began a stellar ca- reer working for the United States Federal Government, retiring from the Veterans Administra- tion. Mena met and married her life partner and husband of 71 years, Mark Canty, Jr. They moved from Sumter to Philadel- phia and soon, thereafter, pur- chased land in Elkins Park, Abington Township. They lived there together until his death and until her health began to fail. Mena consented to move back (December, 2017) to the city where she grew up and had more family for support, Tampa, Florida.
Demonstrating their Chris- tian values through service, Mena and Mark joined Salem Baptist Church where they were both de- voted members for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Mark Canty, Jr. and all of her siblings.
On Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 10:55 p. m., Mena peace- fully transitioned to her Heavenly Home.
She leaves a legacy of love to: daughter, Shelia Canty of Or- lando, Florida; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; nephews, Maceo Chaney (Patri- cia) of Atlanta, GA; Wendell L. Duggins (Debra), Larry T. Dug- gins, Albert M. Duggins (Gwen); nieces, Evelyn A. Davis(Jimmy), Robyn W. Gordon, all of Tampa, FL and a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
Mrs. Canty’s remains will be shipped in care of Bruce R. Hawkins Funeral Home, 6828 Old York Road, Philadelphia, PA 19126.

MOTHER VONCILE ALTHENA DRY
A Celebration of Life Service for Mother Voncile Althena Dry, will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 2 p. m. at Mount Sinai AME Zion Church, 2909 N. Ne- braska Avenue, Tampa, Florida, Rev. Jimmy R. Caldwell, Pastor, with Rev. Dr. Mozella Mitchell, Presiding. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4207 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
Miss Dry was born on April 24, 1907, to the parentage of Willie and Missie Dry in Milligan, FL. She came to Tampa at an early age.
Many members of her family have preceded her in death. Her only child and son, Charles Mc- Caskill Sr., six sisters, two broth- ers and four grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories with: loving grandchil- dren, granddaughter, Vernita McCaskill, and grandson
Gary McCaskill; great grand- daughters, Kella McCaskill, Amaya Javen, Nyanna and Kirsten McCaskill; great-grand- sons, Tavares McCaskill and Ji- mari Hicks, all of Tampa; nephews, David Hicks (Barbara) of Tampa. Fred Young, Jr. (Daisy) of Pensacola, FL, Earnest Ellerby of Syracuse, NY; great nephews, Melvin Young, Kenny Young, Douglas Young (Cheryl) and David Young, all of Pensacola, FL; nieces, Laurie Dubois of Sum- merset, N. J., Juanita and Bonita Dry, of Tampa; great nieces, LaTonya Smith-Williams (Al) and Mintoria Smith of Pensacola, FL; great-nephews, Ralph Williams, III, Eric Williams of Tampa. Michael Young (Felicia) of Or- lando, FL, Darryl Dry (Stacy), of Raleigh, NC; cousins, Juanita Tate of Atlanta, GA, Henry Tate of Baltimore, MD, and William Tate of Cincinnati, Ohio; long time and devoted friends, Mrs. Hattie
White, Mrs. Curtiss Wilson, Ms. Maxine Douglas, Tonya Lewis, Di- ajuana Brown and the entire Liv- ing with Friends family.
Miss Dry was a faithful mem- ber of Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church for over 50 years. She served on the Usher Board and many other boards and auxiliaries over the years until her health no longer permitted her to do so.
Miss Dry has served her com- munity being a part of several or- ganizations throughout her life, some of which included, the Lily White Organization, Red Hatters, a chartered member of the Young at Heart Ministry at St. Luke AME Church, and a chartered member of the Senior Adults Ministry (S. A. M.) at Allen Temple AME Church.
Mother Voncile Dry was loved by many and touched countless lives during her lifetime. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and neighbors.
There will be a viewing on Fri- day, September 20, 2019, at Wil- son Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida, from 5 – 8 p. m.
Friends are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at ap- proximately 1:45 p. m.

MR. RODERICK ‘LIL ROD’ COUNCIL
Homegoing Celebration Service for Roderick “Lil-Rod” Council will be on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 2 p. m. at the Center for Manifestation 3102 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, FL, Apostle Mark T. Jones, Sr., Pastor, with Dr. Laytecia McK- inney, officiating, and Pastor Al- fonzo Broughton, eulogist. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery, 4615 E. Hanna Avenue, Tampa, Florida.
On Saturday, September 7, 2019, Roderick was in a horrific motorcycle accident and he was succumbed by his injuries and tran- sitioned on Thursday, September 12, 2019.
