Once inside, he used acodetoopenadoortoan outbuilding. Once inside, he reportedly took 30 batteries that powered the Verizon cellular signal for that spe- cific tower. The batteries were valued at $12,000, po- lice said.
On December 8th, Bing- ham is alleged to have re- peated the same act at a Verizon cell phone tower at 1507 21st Avenue, SE, in Ruskin. After removing about 30 batteries, valued at $12,000, he fled the scene.
He is also accused of en- tering a T-Mobile outbuild- ing and taking 8 back up batteries worth an esti- mated $2,000, police said.
In all of the instances, the thefts resulted in a brief interruption to the cellular network, including to the 9- 1-1 system.
DONALD PAINE DAVIS ... Warrant issued
Bingham told police that he sold the batteries at a metal recycling yard. After being arrested, he report- edly admitted that he had committed the same offense in the City of Tampa, Hills- borough, Polk, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee, and Sarasota Counties.
Bingham was arrested Tuesday at his home and charged with 8 counts of grand theft; 7 counts of dealing in stolen property; 8 counts of false verification of ownership to a metal re- cycler; 6 counts of interfer- ing with utilities, theft of copper or other nonferrous metals; and 4 counts of bur- glary of a structure.
Detectives investigating the case have issued a war- rant for Donald Paine Davis, 30, of Ruskin. When arrested, Davis will be charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property, fraud identification to a metal recycler, interfering or damaging utilities, and burglary of an unoccupied structure.
