This week’s In The Spotlight feature is Kylie. This young lady comes fully equipped with a level of matu- rity usually not attributed to one so young, and a vision to keep growing until she gets where she wants to be. Kylie is always the center of attention, and handles it with humbleness and charm. This young lady isn’t shy at all, and really enjoys being photographed. Congrat- ulations to Kylie as this week’s Spotlight feature.
   Former Secretary To Dr. King, Jr., To Lay Commemorative Paver On Tampa Riverwalk
 Dr. Xernona Clayton,
former personal secretary to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and later to his wife, Coretta Scott King, will lay a commemorate paver along the Tampa Riverwalk near the monument of Stephen Sparkman as part of her visit to Tampa Bay to hold the annual board meet- ing of the Trumpet Founda- tion.
 The Trumpet Foundation honors important accomplish- ments and contributions by prominent African Americans.
The event will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018, 10 a. m., at the Tampa Bay His- tory Center, 801 Old Water Streeet, Tampa (33602).

   State Launches Drive Sober Campaign
 The national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” safety campaign began on Wednesday, August 15th. The campaign will con- tinue through Tuesday, Sep- tember 4th.
During this campaign, the Florida Highway Patrol, along with local law enforce- ment, will concentrate their efforts on impaired drivers through the Labor Day Week- end. The goal of the campaign is to remove impaired drivers from the roads throughout
the nation.
Colonel Gene S. Spaulding, Director of the Florida Highway Patrol said, “Driving drunk or drugged puts drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk, and each year it claims the lives of too many people.
“If you are under the in- fluence of alcohol or any sub- stance, be responsible and have a designated driver to get you to your destination safely. There is never an ex- cuse for impaired driving.”
In addition to the in- creased presence of state troopers on the roads, Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary troopers will also volunteer their time during the holiday period. The goal of the cam- paign us to deter traffic viola- tions and enhance services to motorists who need assis- tance while traveling.
Motorists are encouraged to call *FHP (*347) if they ob- serve an impaired driver, ag- gressive driver, or to request roadside assistance.
  NAACP To Host Florida Gubernatorial Candidates Forum
 The Hillsborough Branch of the NAACP will host the Governor’s Candidates Polit- ical Forum on Saturday, Au- gust 18, 2018. The forum will take place at Middleton High School, 4801 N. 22nd Street, Tampa, 33610. The doors will open at 10 a.m., the Forum begins at 11 a.m.
The Forum Members of the community will have an opportunity to come out meet, and greet the candi-
dates for the upcoming 2018 Election.
Currently, there are 20 candidates running for the Office of Governor for the State of Florida. Seven of the candidates are Democrats, 8 are Republicans, 1 represents the Reform Party, and four have no party affiliation. Ad- ditionally, 1 candidate is African American and 1 can- didate is female.
Ms. Yvette Lewis, Pres-
ident of the Hillsborough County Branch NAACP said she has extended an invita- tion to the candidates to at- tend the forum on Saturday.
She also said that some of the candidates had previous engagements and will not be in attendance.However, she stated that at least four of the candidates had committed to attend the event.
